Rusty is the first year Head Coach at De Anza College. He served as the Associate Head Coach at De Anza last year. Rusty came to De Anza College after spending 10 years coaching at his alma mater, Santa Clara University. During his tenure at Santa Clara, Rusty worked with several current professional players, such as, Joe Cannon, Mehdi Ballouchy, Jide Ogunbiyi, Amaechi Igwe, Jamil Walker, Jalil Anibaba, Stephen McCarthy, Kevin Klasila, Larry Jackson, and Erik Hurtado. In addition, Rusty has worked with many former MLS standouts, like Ryan Cochrane, Erik Ustruck, Eric Denton, Jeff Stewart, Steve Cronin, Peter Lowry, and Matt Marquess. Working with players of this caliber gives Rusty the perspective needed to promote and develop players to the top levels of the game.
Rusty is also very involved in the community, working with the De Anza Force soccer club. Rusty helps as an assistant to the U18 De Anza Force Academy team. Also, Rusty is also the Director of Goalkeeping for the Tri-Valley Soccer Club of San Ramon.
As a player at Santa Clara University, Rusty was part of a team that played in two College Cup's in a row (1998 & 1999). In 1999, Rusty played in the National Championship game televised on ESPN, losing 1-0 to the eventual champions, Indiana. Rusty's name still sits at the top end of many of the Santa Clara record books in, career shutouts (24), goals against average (.79), and consecutive shutout minutes (526:14).
