Strawberry Cup U16/U19 Free Substitution Rules

Free substitution – Unlimited number of substitutions are allowed per team:

  ·Each player must play at least ½ of the total game unless injured during the game
  ·Substitutions will be tracked by each individual team on the honor system and not by the Referee Team on the match.
  ·Coaches will sign the Time monitoring card and the game card after each game hand the monitoring cards to the referee team with the game cards.


To replace a player with a substitute, the following conditions must be observed:

(Per law 3 of “Laws of the Game”):

·The referee must be informed before any proposed substitution is made
·The substitute only enters the field of play after the player being replaced has left and after receiving a signal from the referee
·The substitute only enters the field of play at the halfway line and during a stoppage in the match
·The substitution is completed when a substitute enters the field of play from that moment, the substitute becomes a player and the player he has replaced becomes a substituted player
·All substitutes are subject to the authority and jurisdiction of the referee, whether called upon to play or not

· ATR (USSF Advice to referees) sections 3.4 thru 3.7
· Section 7.2  of the ATR and Law 7 of “Laws of the Game” covers the addition of time at the end of a half

Only for U 16 and U19 games
may the referee add additional time (no greater than 2 minutes per half) during the Strawberry

Cup Tournament.  All other age groups will follow the tournament rules – no addition of time to keep the games on schedule.
