Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club was founded in 1991 by a group of individuals including Greg Cane, Nic Bacigalupo, Shelley Hedtke, Alex Giulianni, and others.  They wanted to form teams from around the Duluth area that were capable of playing at the top level in the state.  Players from all of the local recreational clubs were invited to tryout.
