Frequently Asked Questions

What does my $35 registration fee pay for?

Every participant receives a team T-Shirt that must be worn on game day (Advanced division participants will have numbers on the back).  They will also receive a trophy or medal at the last game of the season.  The rest of your fees will go to pay for T-shirts for the volunteer coaches, as well as equipment for the league (basketballs, wristbands, etc.)

Where are practices and games held?

Everything takes place at Putman Elementary.  Please park in the rear parking lot and enter the gymnasium through the back doors.  We are very appreciative of everything that the staff at Putman provides for us and we ask that you help us take care of the facilities.  There are bathroom facilities and water fountains located just outside the gymnasium.  Unless you are using either of these facilities please remain in the gymnasium.  The hallways are not to be used for practice, or for playing.  If you bring other children please keep them in the gym.

When are practices and games?

Practice will take place during the week.  Depending on the coaches preference you will have 1 or 2 practices during the school week.  Games will take place on Saturday mornings.  The Hoopster season runs through the months of January and February (and possibly March if there is a cancellation).

What if school is cancelled or not in session?

If school is cancelled/or not in session (due to a holiday) then there are no activities that day.  If school is cancelled on a Friday it DOES NOT mean that games are cancelled for Saturday.

Can I request specific practice times?

While our goal is to please all of our parents and athletes we can not promise to honor every request.  We understand that many of our athletes are involved in other activities and we will do our best to make a schedule that allows for all athletes to participate.  If you do have a request for practice time please contact Andy Hamm by email @ [email protected]

Can I request a specific team, or coach?

The only requests that will be honored are for siblings in the same division.  In order to maintain a competitive balance we can not allow participants to request certain coaches, or to be placed with certain individuals.  If you do have two children playing in the same division please email Andy Hamm @ [email protected] just to make sure that they do end up on the same team.

What if I'm thinking about helping, what can I do?

This program is run by volunteers at every level.  We would not be in operation with out the support of parents and coaches.  If you would like to help in anyway please contact Andy Hamm immediately at [email protected].  If you want to help, and you are not sure how we can still find a spot for you.

Can I move my child up to the Advanced Division?

If your child has been held back (either by the school or by the parents) we will move them up to the older division depending on their birthday.  For example, if your child is repeating the 1st grade they will play with the Advanced Division unless they were young for their grade to begin with.  Competitive balance is very important and it will not help your child to play with athletes that are younger and less experienced.  Last year was our first year with this policy, and we are trying to align with the other youth sports programs by using age over grade.  We will look at moving up athletes that are skilled enough for older competition, just like other programs as well.  However, we will not move an athlete simply to help with practice times and we will not put a Kindergarten or 1st grader in the Advanced division simply because they have a brother, cousin, or friend playing in the older group.

Can I move my child down to the Beginners Division?

We will not move athletes down for any reason.
