Charlotte County Youth Soccer

• When does the season start?
CCYS has two seasons, Spring and Fall. The Spring season practices start mid-February, with games in March-May. The Fall season practices start mid-August, with games September-October. Each season runs approximately for 8 weeks.

• What equipment does my child need?
Each player needs shoes (cleats), shin guards, socks to go over the shin guards, and water. Cleats cannot contain any metal and should be safe to use on a soccer field/game. Please have players dress appropriately for the weather and allow for physical activity. Balls are good to have at home so players can practice. Balls come in 3 different sizes based on ages - Size 3 for U6 and U8 groups, Size 4 for U10 and U12 groups, and Size 5 for the older groups.

• Do I have to pay for uniforms?
No, your registration fee covers a new uniform each season. CCYS attempts to have players use their previous season's number, but there are no guarantees.

• What does the registration fee cover?
Each player's registration fee covers player insurance, field maintenance, referee fees, online registration maintenance, end-of-season awards, and uniform. All coaches and Board members are volunteers.

• When are practices?
Practices are usually two times a week. Those practice times may vary depending on coach availability and weather conditions. Practices are very important especially if your child is not familiar with the game and rules. Practices also foster team spirit/work. CCYS is a recreational program, so players are not penalized for missed practices.

• Is it OK for players to wear jewelry during practice and games? / My child just got their ears pierced.  Can he/she wear earrings while playing soccer?
No jewelry is allowed to be worn by any player during practice or games. "Jewelry" includes earrings, rings, necklaces, decorative bracelets, watches, etc. which must be removed - no tape allowed to 'hide' those items. Medical bracelets are allowed to be worn but must be secured to the body. Beads may be worn in the hair but must be secured to the head such as not to present a safety hazard to the player, teammates, or opponents.

• What about eyeglasses, hearing aids, or other medical devices?
Glasses, hearing aids, and other medical devices may be worn to practices and games. It is recommended players use eyeglass holder/strap or sports-glasses. "Other medical devices" must be secured to the body and not pose a threat of injury to self or others.

• When/where are games?
The season's schedule will be published after teams are formed after registration closes. Locations are found on the homepage.

• I haven't heard from my player(s) coach yet. When will I find out what team my child is on? / How do I know if my child has made it on a team?
Since this is a recreational club, no player will be 'cut' from a team. When registering your player, please note which program you are signing up. Programs are age based along with being the names of the age groups. The 'u' in the name means 'under', so the U10 group is made mostly of 8- and 9-year-olds. When going to practice, please ask where the age group is meeting. When reading communications, please look for your age group. Coaches and the Club will have parent meetings at the beginning of the season. If you are still confused, please talk with a Board Member or email [email protected]

• Can I request to be put on a particular team or with a particular coach? Similarly, can I request to not be put on a particular team or with a particular coach?
There are no guarantees on any request for/against any particular coach or team. Players are grouped according to their age. Most volunteer coaches work within their preferred age group or with own children's age group. According to the league rules, teams are formed to try to make "equally skilled" groups. Due to the size of CCYS, there are limited options with moving players/coaches. All age groups are coed.

• When I log in, it says there are no available divisions for my child.
This happens when the player is not the correct age to participate. Age groups are done in accordance with the US Youth Soccer and Virginia Youth Soccer Association guidance. There is a chart in the Parents' section on the homepage that answers the question "what age group is my child". Please email [email protected] with any additional questions.

• What are the rules?
The club plays according to FIFA rules, except for modifications to help with learning of the game. Those modifications can be found on our homepage in the Coaching Information section.

• How do I know if practice or games are cancelled?
If practice or games are cancelled for the whole club, notifications will be sent via Facebook and the "All-parents" Band channel. The bulk email option from the registration site and/or the homepage may also be used, depending on circumstances. If practice is cancelled for a particular team, the specific Band channel should be used. On game days, the league will determine if the day will be cancelled by 7 am. For practice days, the club will cancel the last possible chance, but with as much warning as possible.

• Where do I get more information?
The club tries its best to share information in a timely manner. The club uses our registration website, bulk emails, Facebook, the band communication app, along with word of mouth. The club also tries to partner with the local school district to hand out fliers. You can always email [email protected] with specific questions or concerns.
