Athletico Physical Therapy Representative: Mike Plant
Hello Team Chicago!
My name is Mike Plant, and I am the new Athletico Physical Therapy representative for Team Chicago! I will be available at Team Chicago's facility for injury assessments at regularly scheduled times throughout the season, please ask your coaches for more details. I am always available in the off-season as needed by appointment in my clinic! I look forward to interacting with all players and parents in the coming seasons. Here is a little bit about myself:
I grew up in Naperville, attending Naperville Central High school. After finishing high school, I moved on to attend college at the University of Minnesota where I attained a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, a minor in Coaching, a Spanish language endorsement, and achieved Summa Cum Laude honors at undergraduate graduation in 2016. I stayed at the University of Minnesota and earned a Doctorate of Physical therapy degree in 2019. Since concluding my graduate degree, I have worked as a Physical Therapist at Athletico Physical Therapy and am training to be a Sports Certified Specialist (with previous Team Chicago trainer Anne Bierman as a certified mentor). I also was the Freshman Boys soccer coach for Naperville Central High School in 2019 and plan to continue my high school coaching career for years to come.
I have played soccer my whole life and want to spend as much time around the game as a player, coach, and now trainer as I can! I was a three-year varsity starter as a center back during my Sophomore-Senior years at Naperville Central High School (2009-2011), and earned All-State honors as a captain my senior year. I also played six years of club college soccer at the University of Minnesota where I enhanced my soccer leadership as eventual club Vice President.
Not only has my education and soccer experience prepared me for this job and responsibility, but my injury history allows me to understand the importance of proper acute injury care and great rehabilitation for spending the largest amount of time playing the game we love as possible. During my early club soccer career, I had multiple long term injuries that required a quick initial response, plenty of education, and fun rehabilitation experiences to return myself to the field. Although part of my job will be to help train the athletes to prevent injuries, I will always be ready to provide the best on-site and in-clinic care possible in the event of an injury.
If you have questions, would like a free injury assessment, or would like to discuss formal physical therapy, please reach out to me via either method of communication below. Thank you and go TC!
