Steve Knapman, Technical Director

Steve Knapman has been coaching in the Maryland, D.C. and Virginia area for nineteen years and Steve holds an English Football Association B License and USSF A License.

Steve’s playing career began in England at 16 as a trainee with Oldham Athletic where he got to play against the likes of David Beckham and Paul Scholes. He also had short spells at Wigan Athletic and Blackpool before moving to Hong Kong where he played in their professional first division. Here in the United States, Steve was a member of the professional Maryland Mania team in 1999 and trained with DC United for 6 months in 1998 where he was coached by ex-US Men's National Team Coaches Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley.

Brian Wall, PSA Competition Phase Director of Coaching (U15-U19)

 

Brian Wall arrived in Maryland in 1994 and has been coaching club and college soccer since 1998.   Wall has extensive coaching and playing experience. Originally from Smithtown, NY, he grew up playing a high level of club soccer in the Long Island Junior Soccer League.  He also played for various travel select teams including the East Islip Soccer Club, where he won 2 state cup titles at u16 and u17, including advancement to Regional Finals and Semi-Finals respectively. After graduating from Saint Anthony’s High School in South Huntington NY, Wall attended Mount Saint Mary’s University (The Mount) located in Emmitsburg, MD.  He graduated from The Mount in 1998 with a BS in Business Administration along with a MBA in Finance in 2000.

Wall was a four year starter at The Mount, a NCAA Division One university.  He accrued numerous accolades while playing there.  Wall was named team MVP and was a 2 year captain.  In addition, Wall gained All Northeast Conference honors for 2 seasons and NSCAA All South Region honors for one season. He was the recipient of the John M. Kolon Award his senior year which is presented to one male and one female student athlete in recognition for four years of academic and athletic excellence.  In 2012, Brian was inducted into The Mount’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Wall began his coaching career as the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at The Mount for Mark Mettrick for one year and Rob Ryerson for one year.  During this time, Wall was also a technical trainer leading player development initiatives in Loudoun County, VA for the Darryl Gee Soccer Academy.  He moved on becoming the Varsity Boys Soccer Coach at Damascus High School for 2 years. At the age of 26, Wall was appointed the first ever Men’s Soccer Coach at Hood College in Frederick Maryland (NCAA Division 3).  After spending 6 months recruiting, Wall guided the Hood Blazers onto the pitch for their inaugural season in 2004. In season two, Hood Men’s Soccer recorded the third-best turnaround in Division III as the team that went 8-4-1 during this season. Wall coached the team from its beginning as an independent program, through its membership in the Capital Athletic Conference, and most recently during the transition to the MAC Commonwealth Conference. Before resigning in 2014, his teams produced seven all-conference honorees on the field. In the classroom, he coached 40 conference academic honor roll members, two CoSIDA Academic All-District picks, and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. 

For the past 14 years Wall has been coaching club soccer for the Potomac Soccer Association where he has coached regional and nationally competitive teams.  Most notably he was the head coach of the Potomac Cougars 93 u17 Maryland State Cup winning championship team of 2010.  In addition, Wall is a former Maryland Olympic Development Program (ODP) Head Coach who guided the U15 boys Maryland ODP team to a Region One Championship and a trip to the National Olympic Development Program National Championship during the 2013 ODP season.  For the past year Brian was the Director of Coaching for the Alliance Soccer Club while also coaching the club's u12 boys team.  Along with his work as a soccer coach and Director,  Brian is a Montgomery County High School teacher at Damascus High School. Brian holds a USCA Advanced National Diploma and a USSF C License.

Mars Rabara has coached with Potomac Soccer Association for the past 10 years across all age groups and in both genders. He currently holds a USSF B License, a USC Advanced National Diploma and a USC Goalkeeper Level III Diploma.
