Levels of Play

A - Drafted Division

  • Teams will be comprised of 100% league boundary approved players. All players will be drafted to the selected team using each league approved drafting processes. Each league draft process will be reviewed by the Wasatch baseball competition committee. Leagues may choose to freeze coaches and assistant coaches players up to 3 players in total.
  • These teams will all participate in local league play as subject to each league playing rules and bylaws.
  • Bats to be used in the division will all be required to have the new USA Baseball stamp to be eligible.
  • End of season tournament - The 1st and 2nd place teams in each league will compete for Wasatch Baseball league championships to take place on the 2nd weekend in June.
  • This division will provide an All-Star experience for players who are interested and select by individual league selection process. All Star tournament will be comprised of a 3-game pool play followed by single elimination tournament.
  • Players who have participated in 50% of their scheduled league games are eligible for All-Star/Postseason play.
  • Uniform is open to league to decide. Coaches will be required to wear matching shirt and pant/shorts for Postseason/All-Star play
  • All-Star Play- Leagues will pay Wasatch Baseball for tournament fees. Fees will be determined by the board and will include fees for umpires, baseballs, winning team awards, and fees for tournament that winners advance to.
  • All-Star tournament will include 3 pool play games followed by Silver/Gold level single elimination tournament. Pool play will determine Silver or Gold level seeding. All-Star tournament should take place the last full week in June each year. The winning team from the Gold level division will have the option to advance and represent WBL in the Pioneer Tournament in Heber, UT hosted by RMSB. Note: Each league will be asked to cover an equal portion of the cost for teams to advance to tournament.
  • Postseason play teams will be required to bat all/Play all rostered players. 

AA - Competitive Division

  • These teams will be made up of a minimum of 9 players from the participating district. Additional players may be from other areas districts or outside of the league boundaries will need to be approved by WBL board. It is highly discouraged for a team to pull players from other districts participating in Wasatch Baseball.
  • These teams will play crossover games with the other leagues in the Wasatch Baseball League with a total of 16 games during the regular season. Games will be played Monday - Friday and on some Saturdays if needed for rain outs. There will be an end of year double elimination tournament based on league play during the season to determine seeding. End of year tournament will be played at Copper Hills and fees for tournament will be paid to Copper Hills. The cost of the tournament should be collected with team registrations and participation in postseason will be required.
  • Winning teams from end of year tournament will be given a $400.00 award to be used for a tournament of the team’s choice. WBL will pay the entry fee for each of those winning teams. Tournament week will take place the 3rd full week of June.
  • Games will be played 50% home and 50% away.
  • Bats in this division used in this division from ages up to 12U can be USA baseball, or USSSA stamped BPF 1.15 - Any bat that has been Withdrawn/Disallowed will no longer be permitted for use on any league or post season game. We will use the list provided by USSSA baseball. For 13U divisions bat will only be allowed a max of drop 10 or -10. These will include USA bats or USSSA 1.15. In ages of 14-18 BBCOR bats will be the only approved bat.
  • Complete Rosters should be submitted to league presidents prior to start of regular season play or April 1st. Players can only be on one team's roster. There will be a max of 15 players per team. Any changes to roster need to be approved by the hosted league president prior to any game. Players from A-Division teams are recommended for substitution if need to fill a team due to illness or absence of regular roster players. Players who are not on any league rosters are not eligible for play at any time in Wasatch Baseball League. Teams who are found to violate this rule can face team discipline up to and including removal from play for the remainder of the season.
  • Only players on a team’s roster and who have played 50% of scheduled league games will be eligible for postseason play.
  • Postseason play teams will be required to bat all/Play all rostered players. 
  • Uniform is open to league/team to decide including postseason play.
  • Cost: Each league will have the ability to charge the amount to cover expenses for teams to play in their league. In addition, there will be a fee per team of $375.00 per team. This is to cover the cost of the end of year tournament paid to Copper Hills to host and also the cost of the winning team to advance to additional tournament.

AAA- Intact Division

  • This is an open division with teams being formed from any area. Each team will be required to register with one of the participating leagues or provide a sponsorship from any organized baseball league and approved by the WBL. Participation in these leagues is at the discretion of the WBL executive board.
  • The purpose of this division will be the top-level teams and only those teams who have an established resume will be approved to play in this league.
  • Limit of 15 teams per age division.
  • Regular season will consist of 16 games. Games will be played 50% home and 50% away. There will be a postseason tournament consisting of a single elimination tournament to determine the AAA State Champion. Results from the regular season will determine seeding for the year end tournament.
  • End of season tournament will be played the 3rd full week in June. This can and may include the weekend of that week depending on the size of the division.
