Flag Football FAQs

Panthers flag football is a travel program, designed to introduce children to organized football.

Q Who is eligible to play flag football?
A - Children ages 5-7 years by August 1, 2020 are eligible to play flag football.

Players must weigh in each week before a game, wearing a minimum of socks, underwear, athletic supporter, game pants with knee pads, and game jersey.

7 year olds weighing between 64-73 pounds will stripe. They will play between the tackle, and will not carry the ball. 

5-6 year olds weighing over 73 pounds will also stripe. There is no maximum weight for 5-6 year old stripers.
 
All players are allowed one pound per week for growth allowance.
 
7 year olds weighing over 73 pounds must move-up to tackle in the first week. 

Q - What is the cost?  
A - $225 for early bird registration (registration forms must be completed online and payment made by April 13, 2019 to receive early bird rate); $250 if paid after April 18, 2020.  Fees include the use of equipment and uniforms. Each player receives a game jersey, flag helmet, registration t-shirt, and trophy. Each team will receive $18 per player to use towards an end of season party.

Q - What equipment must I provided?  
- You will provide football cleats and a protective cup. Equipment provided by the Panthers will be distributed at practice.

Q - When does the season start and finish?  
A - The flag football season runs July to October. 

Q - How many games are there?  
- BGYFL schedules eight regular season games for each team.  Four home games are played at Doerhoefer Park in Downers Grove, and four away games are hosted by other BGYFL teams. There are no play-offs. The players will participate in a Flag Bowl week nine.

Q - What about practices?  
- Practice begins July 27, 2020 and runs Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday until school starts. These practices are held at O'Neill Middle School, 635 59th St., Downers Grove from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. 

Players should wear a t-shirt, shorts, athletic supporter, mouth guard, and cleats.  Please bring a large jug of water.  Insect repellent is also recommended.

Once school starts, practice is two days per week. You will be notified of practice days and location by your head coach.

Q - Who are our opponents?  
- We play towns that have flag football programs affiliated with the Bill George Football League.  The towns include Lombard, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Bartlett, Elk Grove, and West Chicago.

Q - If my child does not like playing flag football, can I get a refund? 
A - Refunds requested before football equipment has been issued will be refunded the paid registration fee, minus $25, and minus any discounts given at the time of registration.  For refunds requested after football equipment has been issued, 50% of the paid registration fee will be refunded upon return of all equipment. 

No requests for registration fee refunds will be accepted after August 10, 2020 for any reason.  
There are no refunds for the Panthers pre-season camp.
