Mark Cahill "CHIPPA" Award

Mark Cahill CHIPPA Award for Excellence in Officiating. This award is presented to an official who meets the CHIPPA Criteria of: Communicate, Hustle, In Position, and Positive Attitude. The award is named for Mark Cahill, a GABL Court of Honor member and varsity high school official who passed away in 2015.

2019 Recipient - Ted Allen

Ted Allen has been selected to receive the 4th Annual Mark Cahill CHIPPA Award, Ted has officiated at the youth, high school, college and adult level in the sports of basketball, men's softball and volleyball over the previous 40 years. He has served as an officials scheduler for multiple organizations including two years for GABL. He and his wife, LouAnn, have two children, Brecca and Nic, and 7 grandchildren.

2018 Recipient - Mike Harmon

Mike Harmon has been selected to receive the 3rd Annual Mark Cahill CHIPPA Award. Mike has officiated at the high school and college level in the sports of baseball and softball for 25 years, in basketball for 33 years and football for 33 years. He has been a GABL official for 33 years as well. He and his wife, Kelly, have two children, Kyly and Aly.

2017 Recipient-Don Fazio

Don Fazio has been selected to receive the 2nd annual Mark Cahill “CHIPPA” Award. Don has officiated in the sports of baseball and softball for 44 years, in basketball for 19 years (including 714 GABL games) and football for 11 years. He also finds time to bowl and play golf when he’s not officiating.

2016 Recipient-Brian Watson

Brian Watson was selected to receive the Inaugural Mark Cahill “CHIPPA” Award. Brian has officiated at the youth, high school and college level for over 10 years and has served on the GABL Academy staff. Following a 20 year career in Finance and Consulting, he became an educator teaching 6th graders for 10 years before entering the administrative side of education in 2015 to become the principal at Tomahawk Elementary School in the Shawnee Mission School District.
