What is the time commitment?
You can expect to practice at least twice a week until games start. You will play an average of two games per week (practice, in addition to games, is up to the coach and team). Games & practices are scheduled for Mon, Tues and Thursday with a possible inter-league tournament on a Saturday and/or Sunday and rain makeups will be scheduled on Wednesdays.
Where will practices/games be located?
There is no easy answer to this question. As a league we have baseball/softball fields at Tyger River Park (TRP). Many coaches will also have access to PRACTICE fields all over district six; elementary/middle schools, churches, communities, etc... Baseball/softball games will primarily be played at TRP but the older your child is the more they will travel to other leagues in the county (Inman, Bryant Rd., N. Spartanburg, etc..)
My children are different ages that put them in different divisions (example ages 7 & 9). Can they not be in the same division?
The only way to put them together is to move the youngest sibling up to the older division, but we DO NOT recommend doing this. The safety of the children is ALWAYS our first priority in D6YAA. The age cut offs are set by our governing bodies, USSSA and ASA, and we cannot alter those guidelines. Yes, it would be much more convenient to keep your children together, but it can be dangerous and it would be a HUGE disadvantage for the youngest. It could mean a drastic size difference for your little one (i.e. your 7 year old first grader is on a team with a 10 year old 5th grader). That is not safe! Also, from 6U-15U baseball/softball the distance between bases gets further apart in each division. This means they have to run faster and throw harder each time they age up. There are other subtle changes that happen from one division to the next. It is best for your children to learn and advance at a healthy pace, with players their own age/size.
What does my registration fee cover?
The registration fee covers all costs associated with the sport of your choice and the upkeep of the league. This includes: uniforms (jerseys, pants, belts, hats, etc.), equipment (catcher's gear, pitching machines, football pads, scorebooks, baseballs, footballs, etc), umpire and referee fees, website fees, fees for the use of fields in Spartanburg county, electricity, water, and upkeep for fields ran by D6YAA, insurance costs, among other expenses that come up throughout the year.
