What is Storm Select soccer?
Signal Mountain Storm Select soccer is Signal Mountain’s soccer program for kids who desire a higher level of coaching and competition than recreational programs typically provide. Players are coached by licensed coaches who have been certified in training and developing soccer players at different ages. Teams will play competitors from the Chattanooga area, so some travel will be required.
What makes Select Soccer different than Recreational soccer?
Select soccer asks a higher level of commitment from their players and parents. We expect all players to attend all practices and games. If a player cannot make a practice or a game, the coach must be notified with as much advance notice as possible. While it is expected that a player will be at each practice and game, it is accepted that sickness and special occasions may mean a player misses an occasional practice or game. Select soccer also has a higher associated cost than Rec soccer. Our costs are in line with other area select programs and are lower than most throughout the state. Cost estimates are listed below.
How long is the commitment?
Players are registered through TN Soccer to play for Signal Mountain Storm for one year.
How are players selected?
Players are selected through evaluations that take place in late May and early June. Players will be selected and placed on Storm Select teams based on performance, ability, and commitment. Selections are at the sole discretion of the age group Storm Coach or Director of Coaching.
Coaches will inform parents within a few days of tryouts of their child’s results and ask for a written (email) acceptance within 24 hours. Practices begin typically in late July or early August, and fees will be due at that time.
How many practices per week should I expect?
U8-U10 typically will practice two times a week for about an hour and a half each practice.
U11 and up will typically increase to 3 practices a week for about an hour and a half.
How many games will there be?
You can expect to have games 2-3 weekends out of every month.
Is my child guaranteed playing time in games?
Playing time will be affected by performance, ability, effort and commitment - both at practice and in games. This is a coaching staff decision. Players can increase their playing time by improving in the four areas listed above.
Is there travel involved?
While a majority of our games will be played in the Chattanooga area (including Cleveland and Fort Oglethorpe), there may be 1-2 out of town tournaments per season. Some teams may choose to attend more tournaments than others. This is usually decided by parents and coaches of each individual team.
What does Select Soccer cost?
Storm fees are $380 per year. This includes registration fees, club fees, Insurance, and field access. This fee is paid once a year in the fall when you sign your commitment letter. Coaching fees and tournament fees are separate and can vary by team. Teams that choose to go to more tournaments may have slightly higher costs than others but a good estimate can be around $300 per season. You will also need to purchase a Storm Uniform package at the beginning of the Fall season. This package will include two game jerseys, one practice jersey, one pair of shorts, and 2 pairs of game socks, at a fee of $150. Storm uniforms are usually updated on at least a two year cycle, so your uniforms should be good for two years or more.
