IMPORTANT FORMS:
GENERAL
Q: How do I contact HRA?
For sports questions, general info, etc, please contact [email protected] and we will respond to you within 24 to 48 hours. You can also call and leave a message at (970) 578-00HR and your call will be returned when an HRA volunteer is available to do so. For good news items or items of concern, please contact the HRA Board at [email protected] - this email will forward your communication to all Board members.
Q: Can I attend HRA Board meetings?
Yes! We encourage you to join us at our meetings which are held on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7pm at the Firehouse in Pierce! Stay as little or as long as you'd like. If you have something you would like discussed at the meeting, please contact us one week prior at [email protected]
Q: Do I need to buy a new jersey for my child for each program?
No. Most of HRA's programs require an "HRA All-Season Jersey". This jersey is purchased for $35 and can be reused for any HRA program where the jersey is used as the uniform. All HRA programs require this jersey unless otherwise noted on the info flyer. If your child has outgrown their jersey and you need to order another, please contact [email protected].
Q: Does my child have to attend Highland School District to play sports?
No. We encourage all children to participate in all sports programs, regardless to their school district or if they are homeschooled. As always, if you have questions, please contact us at [email protected].
VOLUNTEERING
Q: How do I volunteer for HRA sports programs?
If you are interested in coaching your child's team for a sport or volunteering to help out with our events, please indicate so on your child's registration form or contact us at [email protected] .
REGISTRATION
Q: Can I get a refund after I have registered my child?
It is the policy of Highland Recreation Association to not issue refunds, sorry. When registrations are received, HRA uses these funds to pay the sports program fees to sports organizations for each sport, order sports equipment and awards, etc. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us. We encourage you to coordinate with your coach and other parents to make arrangements for carpooling to practices and games, if needed.
If HRA determines that they are unable to proceed with a program due to lack of received registrations, your registration payment WILL be refunded.
Q: The registration deadline has passed, can I still register?
It is imperative that all registrations be received by the sport registration deadline. The deadlines are scheduled to allow enough time to review and select coaches, finalize team rosters, provide rosters to sport program organizers (Windsor, Fort Collins, etc), set practice times, and contact parents. When registrations are received late, it causes delays and can affect the program being started on time. Deadlines are typically set two weeks prior to practices beginning; allowing time for coach selection and roster finalization, and to set practice times and contact parents.
Registrations are accepted after the deadline IF:
- HRA has sent notification either by flyer or email to indicate an extended deadline; or
- The online registration for the sport is still active on the website.
If your registration is received after the deadline and neither of the above items apply, TEAM PLACEMENT CANNOT BE GUARANTEED.
Don't miss a deadline - 'Like' us on Facebook!
Q: How do I find out when practice times will be?
At the May 2012 HRA Board meeting, the Board approved offering a 'Preferred Practice Days' option on the Registration Form. HRA will make best efforts to accommodate preferred practice days requests however cannot be guaranteed - this may be due to the number of received registrations for the program/age group, number of children signed up for one set of practice days vs. another, etc. We appreciate your understanding. If HRA is unable to accommodate your request, we do apologize and encourage you to coordinate with other parents for carpooling options for your child.
Practice times are scheduled based on your coach's availability. Please remember that HRA parent coach volunteers choose to devote a number of hours to your children and need to arrange their own schedules to do so. You will be notified by your coach of days/times of practice once they have been assigned a roster. We encourage parents to coordinate with each other to make arrangements for carpooling to practices, if helpful, and offering to assist the coach in instances where they find they may not be able to attend a practice. As always, if you have questions, please contact us at [email protected].
Q: Can I request what team my child is assigned to?
HRA understands the desire to have your child be on a certain team in order to have a certain coach, for carpooling reasons, or to be with their friends; however, when these requests become numerous, it makes it very difficult to put together team rosters in a timely fashion so practices can begin. We ask that you not submit these types of requests. If you feel that it is imperative for your request be granted in order for your child to be able to participate, please contact HRA at [email protected] - however, HRA cannot guarantee that we will be able to fulfill the request. Thank you for your understanding.
COACHING
Q: What is the coach selection process?
HRA can always use volunteer coaches! If you would like to donate your time to making HRA's programs successful and fun for the youth in our community, please consider being a coach or assistant coach for your child's sport! It is important that anyone volunteering to coach agree to uphold and be a positive role model by practicing good sportsmanship.
At the August 2011 HRA Board Meeting, it was voted to require all coaches complete a Volunteer Coach Application. The Application will require personal references and a background check. This is being done in an effort to provide the safest environment possible for participating children and protect the integrity of HRA's programs. Once the sport registration deadline has passed, requests to coach will be closed. If you are selected to coach, you will be contacted by the sport coordinator and you will be asked to complete a Volunteer Coach Application prior to the start of practices. All Volunteer Coach Applications will be discussed by the HRA Board and sport coordinator to make the final coach selections.
In the event that no one volunteers to coach a sport by the registration deadline, the sport coordinator will contact the parents of registered children for the sport in an effort to find someone willing to do so.
If you have questions about HRA's coach selection process, please contact the HRA at [email protected].
The Highland Recreation Association Board reserves the right to dismiss a coach at any time, if the Board deems necessary.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Q: What is a "Scholarship"?
Each year, Highland Recreation Association applies to receive funds from United Way to provide financial assistance for those that are in need of it. This financial assistance is offered in the form of a scholarship. If approved for a scholarship, your child will receive reduced fee OR a deferred payment deadline for the sport you are applying for. The standard scholarship discount is a 25% reduced registration fee; however, if more assistance is needed, this can be discussed further with the HRA Board. Scholarships do NOT cover the cost of HRA Jerseys, sorry. This scholarship assistance does not automatically renew and must be applied for with each sport. If you are in need of scholarship assistance or deferred payment deadline, please fill out the HRA Scholarship Application (link at top of this page) for review by the HRA Board preferably at least one week prior to registering your child for a sport. As part of our scholarship program, HRA respectfully asks all our scholarship families to volunteer to the extent possible. HRA MUST HAVE A SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION ON FILE FOR EVERY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT - this is necessary for reporting purposes.
