My son is home schooled - can he join the league?

Yes

When does the league start?

Pre-Season games/training begin in February. Official Opening day for the OASBL is Saturday February 21st, 2015.

How many games do you play?

16 games weather permitting (plus playoffs)

Is it Wood Bat or BBCOR?

This is a Wood Bat or Wood Composite League

How many teams are in the league?

TBA

How do you tryout?

Please see Tryouts page. Tryouts will Run in the months of November through February.

I Didn't Make Grades - Can I still play in this alternative spring league?

Yes (but get your grades up!)

Can I play for my High School in the Spring and The OASBL on weekends?

No 

Who are the coaches?

Coaches in the Spring league are generally affiliated with a Travel Club or High School Team and are generally professional coaches/instructors with excellent baseball backgrounds.

Where do you play?

The OASBL will be centered around the OKC Metro. We have secured fields in the OKC Metro and several colleges.

How much does it cost to play?

Each team charges a league/game fee to participate in the league that covers: league entry, umps, fields, baseballs and coaching staff for three months of baseball . Most teams offer payment plan and uniform. The fee will be announced soon.

What uniform do you wear?

Each team has their own uniform. Generally consists of A Dryfit Jersey and a Hat.

What are the league rules?

League rules will be posted on the OASBL page and included in coaches and players packet. HS/Club Hybrid. Similar to high school baseball with added Club rules and features to allow teams to hit lineup and free defensive substitutions.

Are there scouts at games?

It will depend on the talent of the league. Its game to game and year to year. Don't join the league for the sole reason of trying to get drafted.

Can I get recruited from the league?

For the greater percentage the answer is no. But It's possible and we have personally seen college coaches walk up to players and get contact info which have led to collegiate play. This year we have added features to the league we feel can only help in the process including: Testing Combines, Players Stats, League Leader Stats & Player Promotions on the league website.

Can College players play?

Yes, Red Shirt Freshman or freshman in college that are not playing. In 2014 we had 12 college freshman play in the ABDSL

What is the age limit?

There is no set limit but generally stops at College Freshman.

Is it a competitive league?

The Majors division is equivelant of many HS Varsity leagues. Minors is comparable to Fresh/JV baseball.

When does the league start?

Opening Day is Saturday February 21th with Opening Day festivities including Combine Teating (60 Dash, Arm Velo Testing, Homerun Contest, Bat Demo Day, Etc) Sunday February 22nd will be opening Day of games.

When does the league end?

Playoffs Begin Mid May and we finish mid/late May.

Are there practices?

Some teams have workouts and others do not. Majority of the teams do not train and the league has been more focused on development within the games and swinging a wood bat.

How many umpires at games

Two

How many players are on a roster?

Each team is different but average 13 position players and 6 Pitcher only.

How does playing time work?

Each Coach has their own philosophy but its not been an issue in the past. We play a lot of games.

Has anyone ever been drafted from alternative spring leagues?

Yes, ABD Bulldog Tanner Rahier, SS, Palm Desert HS. 2nd Round in the 2012 MLB Draft by the Cincinatti Reds.

What is the Player Profile page and why is it beneficial?

Each player will receive a personal player webpage with their baseball tool testing information, stats and contact info including players Twitter Channel.  You can email the web link to any coach or scout in the country to get instant feedback. With this feature, coaches and scouts that cannot attend the spring league games will still be able to recruit you by reviewing your webpage.  This is added exposure to help increase your college and pro options at the next level.
