AYSO Tierrasanta: Referees
Referee Info
Safe Haven Certification for Referees is now available on line! Go to www.aysotraining.org.
To access the online courses and receive certification or credit, you must be a registered AYSO volunteer with an AYSO ID number, and have access to a computer with Internet and Flash Player 8. If you do not have an AYSO ID number, the system will direct you on how receive one. (Remember, there will be a delay in receiving your ID number, the system will take time to process your request.) When you first access one of the online courses, the system will recognize if your computer has Flash Player 8 capabilities or not. If not, a "Free Download" icon will appear. Follow the download instructions. Upon completion, you will be able to print a certificate of successful completion, and your volunteer record will be updated in eAYSO. (eAYSO updates occur weekly.)
This message is for the new and returning referees for the 2013 Fall season:
1: Every team U10 and above is supposed to provide one or more referee to help throughout the season in order to qualify for the play-offs. The referees are supposed to earn 12 points for the team they represent: 1 point per position per game (i.e. if a referee and AR are working the same game representing the same team, that team will get two points). If a member of the public is asked to help out as a team linesman, that team WILL NOT get point for that game; only referees in uniform are recognized for the points. This year every team is supposed to identify their referee(s) before the 1st game of the season and the referee(s) will earn the points for that team only. There will not be buying, begging or asking for points from any referee who has no affiliation with any team or any referee who has earned enough points for their team.
2: If we do not have enough referees at the beginning of the season we are not able to cover all the games so we will have to pull the referees out of the U8 division. The U8 division does not have won-loss standings and there are no play-off implications. We do not want a situation like last year where the U10 division had many games with no referees throughout the season.
3: We have always taken pride that we protect the Youth and adult referees. We had some incidents in the past where Coaches and or spectators have berated or directed some unkind words at the referees during or after the games. This is something that has never been tolerated in AYSO and certainly not here in Tierrasanta. We are going to make it clear to all coaches that their behavior and that of the parents and spectators is their responsibility. If they cannot control the unsporting behavior then any referee has the right end the game and to walk away. It will be reported to the Regional Referee Administrator or to any board member.
