Softball FAQs

Here are some answers to some of the questions we receive from new parents:

Q: What equipment does my daughter need to play?

A: The girls only need to have a glove.  The league provides the bats, balls, helmets and other equipment.  We recommend rubber spikes but they are not mandatory.  However, the dirt infields can mess up sneakers.

Q: When do practices start and how often do the girls practice?

A: Our Spring season begins mid-March and lasts through the first week of June. Our Fall season begins late-August and runs through the end of October. Practices are general 1-2 times a week with games generally twice a week. We do survey families for availability conflicts and try our best to adjust practice and game scheduling so no one player misses a disproportionate amount of events.

Q: What fields do the girls practice and play on?

A: We primarily use the field at Donald B. Stabler Memorial Park (6th and Linglestown Roads) and Veterans Park off of Elemerton Avenue. During our Spring season, we also use the high school field near Sara Lindemuth Elementary School on some evenings.

Q: Do we play teams outside of Susquehanna Township?

A:  We play in the East Shore Fastpitch League offering recreational (not selective travel) softball.  The girls typically play two games a week.  One at home and one on the road. Teams in the league touch surrounding school districts in Dauphin County on the East Shore (not north of Susquehanna Township though).

Q: My player never tried softball or baseball before, can she still play?

A: YES! No prior experience is necessary to participate in our recreational fastpitch association. We love to teach new players the game!
