Age Deadline Rule Update

SBL Family,

As a board, we’re always open to new ideas and hearing about best practices from other leagues to improve the baseball experience for our players and their families. Recently, one of those improvements has been focused on age limit cutoff dates for all our divisions.

To allow more flexibility and better suited age divisions across our league, the SBL Board of Directors has voted to update the current age cut-off date, effective with the Fall 2021 season.

Here’s what’s changing.

FROM TO
One age cut-off, currently April 30 for the following year Spring and Fall Two age cut-off dates per calendar year
  • Spring:  March 1
  • Fall: August 1

This means a player’s age on March 1 determines which age division he/she will play for in the Spring of that same year. And whatever age a player is on August 1 determines which age division he/she will play for in the Fall of that same year.

This allows our players to advance more often to the appropriate age division, which is especially important as players approach the bottom or top ends of our age divisions.

We’re excited for the continued growth of Smyrna Baseball League and we look forward to another great season in the Fall! Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for online registration to begin for our Fall baseball season.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our Player Agent, at [email protected].

Thanks.

- Your SBL Board.
