The
Golden Isles Soccer Association is a member league of the Georgia Youth
Soccer Association (GYSA), which is recognized by the United States
Soccer Federation (USSF) as the controlling authority for the
development of youth soccer in the State of Georgia.
The USSF is, in turn, a member of the Federation Internationale de
Football Association (FIFA), the worldwide administrator of our sport,
and the creator of the World Cup. All of our rules and policies are
derived from the international FIFA rules with modifications to
accommodate our youth players.
Soccer for children in the state of Georgia
is governed by the rules of the Georgia Youth Soccer Association, and
is divided into two categories, Traveling (Select and Recreational) and
Micro (Instructional). The distinguishing factor for traveling is
whether or not a tryout process is used to select the team; Select teams
are allowed to hold tryouts, while recreational teams are not.
At Golden
Isles Soccer, a committee of board members, coaches managed
by our Director of Coaching known as the “Placement Committee” does
selection to, or placement on teams at all levels. Prior to the Select
levels, the Micro teams are organized by the Committee for the purpose
of player development and league parity within the framework of team
development. These teams are small and limited in number. The In-House
program ends at the U-12 level, after which the teams are designated as
Traveling. (Club has option to fill traveling teams starting at
U10). The organization of teams by single age groups is stressed at all
age levels.
