Rough Rider Training

Overview

Club Training

Throughout the years, the Long Island Rough Riders have developed players of all ages and playing abilities.

From developing successful travel team players to professional level athletes, our proven systematic instructional training program has catered to beginner, intermediate and advanced level soccer clubs.

At the core of all our training programs is the fundamental principle of individuals having fun with a soccer ball.

By developing a love for the game, players build a passion for the sport. As a result individuals improve their skills naturally as they look forward to training and playing more often.

The Rough Riders are confident that our training services can further build upon the building blocks for your soccer club.

Stages

Club Stages

In our view, a youth soccer club should provide three ability stages for its players. These stages accommodate the recreational, intermediate and competitive player. Soccer clubs that provide the following stages retain their players while increasing player participation.

Recreational

The goal at this stage is to implement a fun and exciting soccer environment where basic soccer skills, enjoyment, creativity, and experimentation are the main focus.

Intermediate

At this stage the training curriculum is refined to reflect more technical refinement to specific positions, while developing a basic tactical theme within the club. Passion for the game will be continually nurtured through training and playing.

Competitive

The training curriculum at this stage reflects advanced technical skills, tactical awareness, physical and physiological components for all teams within the club, while providing opportunities for players to be exposed to soccer opportunities, including regional and national soccer events.

Method

Training Method

We will provide age appropriate training for pre-kindergarten to all travel team age groups.

Stage I – Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten clinics utilize a story-book instructional approach, teaching skills in a fun and safe environment. Training sessions develop the beginner player while providing a platform for Stage II.

Stage II – While building upon the ‘passion theme’ through appropriate training exercises, players in 1st and 2nd grade are taught more advanced technical skills while implementing basic team tactics.

Stage III – Third, fourth, and fifth grade players are encouraged to train with their teams at each clinic. Sessions will continue to refine individuals’ skills while incorporating more advanced tactical principles along with understanding the basic principles of the game such as goal kicks, throw-ins, corner kicks and the off-sides rule.

Stage IV – Geared more toward travel teams, the four components of the game are refined and continuously implemented through game play and training sessions.
