The u18 boys team, Jersey United Spartans 95/96B ASL team capped off an exciting week winning the 2014 MSSL Spring College Showcase event this past weekend.
Earlier in the week, in a NJ Cup game, the Spartans were losing 2-0 late in the 2nd half at Ironbound and found a way to come back to tie the game before winning in a penalty shootout. Goals in the final 12 minutes by Michael Vargas & Steven Valencia tied the game up in regulation. Goalkeeper Bobby Edwards made a huge save on the 4th pk to win the shootout.
At the MSSL event Friday morning, the Spartans found a way to beat the same Ironbound team again 1-0 in a very close battle. In the 2nd game of the day vs. Ocean, Chris Webb scored his 2ndgame winner of the day to win 1-0. Having already qualified for the finals, the Spartans fell behind 1-0 early Saturday morning to LDC, but dominated the game and found a way to win 2-1. In the final, the Spartans beat FC Copa 2-0 finishing the event with a record of 4-0.
The u18 boys have qualified for the quarterfinals of both the NJ Cup & NJYS National Championship events and look to continue their 7-game winning streak.
