Girl's Volleyball
Director: Darlene Tierney
Assistant Director: Dan McCluskey

Girl's Volleyball is offered for Grades 3-8. No prior experience is required.

Team Selection

GA is a large enough school that we are able to separate teams by grade and we usually do not combine different grade levels to construct teams. The number of teams is dependent upon the participation level per grade each year. We tend toward smaller teams to maximize playing time so it is not unusual to have 3 or 4 teams per grade.

In the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades we blend teams at GA. We identify our most athletic or sports specific skilled players, as well as our average players and our weakest players. We then construct teams that are a balanced mix of these players. Our goal is to field teams that are blended so that we can compete in the league but at the same time develop all of the girls who wish to play. In the 6th, 7th and 8th grades we strive to field competitive teams to compete in the CYO competitive leagues. Some years we may have A and B teams and then blend the remaining teams. The extent to which we field competitive teams or blend in the older grades is a function of the number of participants and athletic and/or sport specific skills sets of the girls participating that year.

Game Information
Girls Volleyball will be played according to the new Greater Cincinnati Catholic Youth Sports league rules. Additional information can be found on their website.

Coaching

The archdiocese requires 2 adults to be at every practice. Therefore, we attempt to place 2 coaches per team. GA asks for volunteers from our parent community, the parish community, alumni, etc… Every attempt is made to get the best coaches for every team.

Parent coaches are permitted in grades 3-5. In grades 6-8, the A team head coach will not be a parent. B and C teams may have parents coach. If you are interested in volunteering to coach please contact the Girl's Volleyball Booster Director.
