FALL 2019 SBL COACHES FORUM

On August 20th, the Smyrna Baseball League (SBL) held its first Coaches Forum to kick off the Fall season.  The league President, Jerry Bradley, opened it up with welcomed news about reestablishing the 15-17 division.

The forum highlighted five present and former SBL coaches as its panelists:  Kevin Beveridge (35 years coaching), Marcus Chatman (10 years coaching), Richard Epps (multiple SBL championships), Bill Laidlaw (50+ years playing, coaching, and administrating), and Reggie Littleton (multiple SBL championships).  Panelist answered questions posed by the moderator, Mario Davidson, on teaching players, conducting practices, communicating with players and parents, and dealing with disciplinary issues.

The forum also involved small groups where SBL board members facilitated discussions about difficult situations raised while coaching.  Participants discussed confusing rules, policies, and ethical issues.  There were a lot of great ideas shared with lively conversation.
