Please join us for our basketball tournament starting February 13 through approximately February 29.
Grades 3-11 for Girls and Boys
3 Game Minimum (up to 5 games possible)
$150 Early Bird Price by February 10
Flex Scheduling Monday - Saturday
2 Divisions for Grades 4-6 (Competitive and Less Competitive/Less Experienced) so less experienced teams can be competitive in a B division
2 Divisions for Grades 7-11 (Big/Small Schools)
Teams may start as late as February 15-22 if necessary.

Dear Basketball Program Directors/Coaches:

The Derry Area Youth Athletic Association Girls and Boys Travel Basketball Programs invite your basketball organization to participate in our annual tournament.

Date: February 21-23, 2020 (games may be played on Thursday, February 20, if necessary.)

Location: Derry Area High School and Middle School gyms.

Divisions: Girls: 3rd grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals.

4th grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals. 5th grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals.

6th grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals.


Boys: 3rd grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals. 4th grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals.

5th grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals.

6th grade division – 3 games minimum, top 2 teams play in finals.

  • Each team will play a minimum of three games.

  • Team rosters are limited to 12 players.

  • Awards for the first and second place teams in each division.

  • All players must be from the same school district, NO AAU TEAMS. If it is discovered throughout the tournament that a team is not a Community/Rec based team the team will be disqualified and tournament registration fee will not be refunded.

  • Each player must play in their school grade division or higher. Players cannot be double rostered.

  • Games will be played in the high school, high school aux, and middle school gymnasiums.

  • Specific Tournament Rules are attached. All other rules will be in accordance with those of the PIAA.

DERRY AREA YOUTH ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

BASKETBALL 3rd,4th, 5th, 6th GRADE TOURNAMENT RULES


  1. Maximum of twelve (12) players per team. No alternates are permitted.

  2. Maximum of two (2) coaches per team on the bench.

  3. All coaches are asked to have their teams ready to go (15) minutes prior to your scheduled start time.

  4. Games will consist of four (4) six-minute quarters. If overtime is required, a two (2) minute quarter will be played, or as many two minute quarters as necessary to determine a winner.

  5. Sixth (6th) and Fifth (5th) grade teams may press during the entire game.

Fourth (4th) and Third (3rd) grade teams may press only the last two minutes of the second and fourth quarter and overtime.

Any team leading by 15 points cannot press.

  1. Any time the point differential reaches 20 points the clock will run continuously stopping only for foul shots and time outs. If the differential drops below 20 points, normal clock operations will resume.

  2. Coaches are responsible for their players’ and fans conduct before, during, and after the game.

Note: Locker rooms will not be available to the players.

  1. Each team will have four (4) - 30 second timeouts per game. One (1) time out will be given in an overtime period.

  2. One Coach may stand during play, but this can change at the referee’s discretion.

  3. All players must be in grade 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th and cannot exceed ages 9, 10, 11, and 12 by March 1, 2020.

  4. Two (2) technical fouls on a coach or player the referee must eject that person from the game and gym. Anyone ejected for any reason will not be permitted in the gym for the remainder of the game and will not be permitted in the gym for the next game. Person ejected is permitted to stand outside the gym, but cannot coach from outside the gym doors or will be furthered removed from the building.

  5. A fifteen (15) minute grace period will be given to a team after the scheduled starting time. Any team who cannot place five rostered players on the floor will forfeit the game.

  6. Seven (7) team fouls must be committed prior to the opposing team qualifying for 1 and 1 foul shooting. Ten (10) team fouls result in the double bonus.

  7. Regulation size 29.5” ball will be used in 6th grade boys games. A 28.5” size ball will be used in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade boys games and all girls games.

  8. All other rules are in accordance with PIAA guidelines.


RULE INTERPRETATION THIRD (3rd) and FOURTH (4th) GRADE TEAMS ONLY: If a team obtains clear possession of a defensive rebound, at that time, they become the offensive team. The now defensive team can make no steals until the ball crosses the half court line. The only exception, of course, third (3rd) grade and fourth (4th) grade teams the last 2 minutes of the second and fourth quarter and overtime – by any team with a lead of less than 15 points. The first defensive violation will constitute a warning. All subsequent defensive violations will constitute a technical foul.
