Ewing hired as DYSA Director of Goalkeeping



Durango, Colorado - July 13, 2018 - The Durango Youth Soccer Association (DYSA) would like to welcome Douglas Ewing as its new Director of Goalkeeping.

Ewing has an extensive soccer coaching background that starts in1988 as an Assistant Coach for the East High School Boy’s team in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1992-1997 He was the Head Coach for the Lincoln High School Boys and Girls teams in Iowa. During those years Ewing served as a Staff Coach for the Iowa Olympic Development Program and coached with the West Des Moines Soccer Club.

In 1998 Ewing transitioned to being a Goalkeeper Coach for a college team, Drake University and a professional team, Des Moines Menace.  In 2000 he acted as the Goalkeeper Coach for the men’s professional team the Arizona Sahuaros, and joined the Arizona Arsenal Soccer Club Coaching Staff and stayed with that club until 2014. From 2002-2004 he acted as a Director of Coaching for Arsenal. 

DYSA Director of Coaching Joanna Tucker said, “I am excited to have Doug join our DYSA Director of Coaching staff as he brings years of varied soccer experiences from around the region.  Doug has a mature and keen eye for the game while developing players accordingly through high player expectations and demanding effort and hard work across the ages."

Ewing graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1991, and a Master of Science in Education in 1997 from Drake University. During his time at Drake, a NSCAA Division I program, he played goalkeeper for the men’s program.  In 2015 Doug and his wife Staci moved to Durango to take a position at Fort Lewis College as the Director of Recreational Services. In 2017 he started coaching for DYSA working with our 16U and 19U girls, and our 16U boys teams. Ewing has an United States Soccer Federation A License.

DYSA Director of Coaching Jimmy Hall said, "I am please to have Doug joining our DYSA team of Directors. I have worked with him before and Doug brings a high level expertise and his philosophies align well with DYSA. His career experience and maturity will expand far beyond just our youth goalkeepers."

DYSA strives for continual growth and improvement within the club to better the experience for its members.  With the hiring of  Ewing as Director of Goalkeeping the club is again heading in a positive direction in the strengthening of its club culture, values, and coach and player development.  DYSA takes pride in being a positive influence in the community with its direct impact on its membership, with the club’s community service initiative the GOAL (Go Out And Lead) program, and with the Durango Shootout Soccer Tournament.   In 2018 the city of Durango welcomed 133 youth soccer teams from across the western United States to the Shootout. The three-day tournament provides a strong boost to our local economy and our ever-growing soccer community.  

DYSA has a lot to look forward too for the Fall 2018 - Spring 2019 soccer season. “I am very excited about Doug joining our staff working alongside myself, Joanna and Jimmy” said Technical Director Kate Stahlin. ”Doug has a lot of knowledge and experience he can share which will support our players development, and our continued growth as Directors."
