Age Group Policy/Rules

Formation of MSI Classic teams in age groups will be based upon the US Soccer guidelines, with an allowance made to facilitate most "same-grade" players to continue playing with their classmates.  For detailed information, click here.

General Registration Information (please review prior to registering your team!)

MSI continues to put families first, with no increase in the Classic League registration fees again next season!
On-time deadline to register for the Spring 2023 season is January 21, 2023.  After this date, all teams will incur a $100 late fee ($103 by credit card).

  • U10:  $1,680 pay by check, $1,730.40 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 7v7; roster size 13 players)
  • U11:  $1,960 pay by check, $2,018.80 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 9v9; roster size 15 players)
  • U12:  $1,960 pay by check, $2,018.80 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 9v9; roster size 15 players)
  • U13:  $2,437 pay by check, $2,510.11 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 11v11; roster size 18 players)
  • U14:  $2,437 pay by check, $2,510.11 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 11v11; roster size 18 players)
  • U15:  $2,437 pay by check, $2,510.11 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 11v11; roster size 21 players)
  • U16:  $2,437 pay by check, $2,510.11 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 11v11; roster size 26 players)
  • U17:  $2,437 pay by check, $2,510.11 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 11v11; roster size 26 players)
  • U18:  $2,437 pay by check, $2,510.11 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 11v11; roster size 26 players)
  • U19:  $2,437 pay by check, $2,510.11 pay by credit card - includes 3% credit card processing fee (playing 11v11; roster size 26 players)

IMPORTANT NOTES (Regarding Deadlines, Fees, and Carding of Players)
The deadlines for team registration are indicated below. Timely registration and fee payment for teams is critical for divisional planning and game scheduling purposes. Please be considerate of the other teams and register and submit fee payment on time. Registration and payment of fees after the payment deadline will be assessed a $100 late fee ($103 by credit card). Once the registration/payment deadline has passed, there are no refunds provided.

For all teams, the team registration fees include "carding" of players for the spring season, with a maximum of 18 cards for the Fall and Spring season. For player registration for U15/above teams, league rules allow for rostering of additional players beyond the standard 18.  The team registration fees include "carding" of 18 players, and additional players rostered for the fall season in excess of 18 will be assessed a "carding fee" of $16/player.

Unlike MSI Recreational Soccer, players do not register through the MSI Office for participation in the MSI Classic League.  After trying out for and being selected to play for a MSI Classic team, players are registered through their team's coach/manager.

MSI's Synthetic Turf Fields (with lights) enable vast expansion of games on Superior Quality Fields!
MSI has funded the construction of new synthetic turf fields at Julius West MS (4 fields, with lights), Albert Einstein HS (1 field, with lights), and Walt Whitman HS (1 field, with lights), at a cost of nearly $5 Million over 10 years.  These fields vastly expand our ability to schedule games on superior quality fields, AND to avoid rainouts at a much improved level.

All U10-U12 teams will be scheduled to play all 8 league games (100%) on the turf or superior quality grass fields, up from the historic level of 4 games on Bermuda turf. All U13-older teams will be scheduled to play 6 of their 8 league games (75%) on turf or superior quality grass fields, up from the historic level of 4 games each.  If there are rainouts, thunder/lightning, or closure of fields for other unusual circumstances, make-ups may be scheduled on standard park/school fields, though every effort will be made to maximize the extent to which make-ups are scheduled for superior quality fields!

If your team is NEW to the Classic Program or if you are a NEW Team Manager or Coach
You are required to attend a new team training. This will be held via Zoom 2-3 times prior to the start of the season. Dates and registration details will be posted here. 

If you are a NEW Classic Coach
MSI requires all Classic coaches to have at least the MSI Level 1 Coaching Certification or the NSCAA Junior Level VI Diploma (or equivalent) and offers courses twice a year prior to the start of each season. Coaches will have a one-season grace period to acquire their license. We are offer the Level 1 Coach training course in August and March for 2-3 hours. Dates and registration details will be posted here. MSI also encourages coaches to pursue more advanced licensing as their players’ skill level progresses.
