NCAA was established in 1952. Here is our story...
1952 - This is when it all started. An article appeared in the Irwin Standard on Friday, April 4th announcing Little Loop Baseball to be formed. Local baseball figures such as Jack Naylor, Tom Hensler, Henry Garlow, Avald Bergman, Glenn Simpson, as well as others who have shown interest in the athletic youngsters of this community. During the first year of NCAA the Little League was organized with six teams in the age bracket of 9 to 12 years, playing their first game on the Irwin Playgrounds. These teams played under the names of Indians, Cardinals, Pirates, Yankees, Giants, and Cubs. The first year's champion was the Indians after defeating the Cardinals for the championship.
1953 - It was in 1953 that a Pony League was added which made it possible for boys who had outgrown the Little League as far as age was concerned to be members of the 13 to 15 year group. Plans underway for a Minor League for those who didn't make a team.
1954 - Interest in the boys baseball leagues has grown with each year. All Star Team loses to Latrobe. A picnic was held August 28th at Irwin Playground featuring a game between Little League and Pony Managers.
1957 - Celebrate 5th Season. 176 boys register. Eight teams now being named after the team sponsors. Irwin All Stars beat Sewickley in best of 3 Series.
1958 - Opening day started with a parade. Burgess William Hurst threw out the first pitch. Irwin Standard Pony Team were district 4 champs. Little League wins Westinghouse Valley Tournament. Timmy Slater pitches a no hitter. Irwin and N. Huntingdon Schools merge to become Norwin.
1959 - Now Officially Named NCAA includes all sports: baseball, basketball, and football. Ladies auxiliary formed.
1960 - Irwin School Board meets with commissioner Joe Lentz about making 2nd field at Penglyn. Permission obtained! Fundraiser was a flower sale and spaghetti dinner ($1.00 for Adults & $.65 for 12& under) and "Wash your clothes day" at Norwin Laundromat. NCAA Banquet held at North Irwin Fire Hall. Irwin Eagles Pony Team wins Championship.
1962 - Signups April 28th. Must tryout. 8 Little League teams, 4 Pony, 2 Colt, and 1 Legion. Tag Day Fundraiser.
1965 - Norwin High School Opens and football field dedicated on August 31.
1970 - 282 boys participating in little league. 10 little league teams, 4 pony, 2 colt, 11 minor league teams.
1994 - Little Sluggers and tournament teams were introduced to NCAA
1999 - A Pony field was started for NCAA for the Pony teams and Colt team.
2001 - First Pony Game on new Field
2002 - NCAA Celebrates 50th anniversary. A tornado touched down at Penglyn on Mother's Day. 36 Teams, 402 Children participating in little league.
2015 - NCAA enters Little League tournaments under the County Line Little League Charter in the 11u and 12u tournaments in District 4.
2016 - NCAA enters Little League tournaments under the County Line Little League Charter in the 12u tournaments and wins the District 4 championship. The 12u team moved on to win the Section 2 Championships. The 12u team made an excellent effort in the State Little League tournament but fell short. Mike Kugler was elected President and Jason Csukas was re-elected Treasurer. Other executive officers remaining included Tom Hussey outgoing President, Brent Helphenstine VP, Kerry Watson Secretary, Tom Knight Baseball Director.
2017 - Opening Day ceremonies included the dedication and renaming of Penglyn II to Andrew O'Neil field as well as new monuments for David and Andrew. In the spring we had 10 Little Slugger Teams, 7 Little Bantam Teams, 12 Bantam Teams, 8 JR Teams, and 6 SR teams plus pony/colt teams. We had multiple tournament teams from 7u and up all of which had successful tournament seasons. NCAA entered Little League tournaments under the County Line Little League Charter in the 10u, 11u, 12u, and 13u tournaments in District 4. The 10u team won the District 4 and Section 2 championships to advance to the State Tournament. The 11u Team won the District 4 and Section 2 championships to advance to the State Tournament in Lehigh. The 12u team made a strong effort in the 12u District tournament. The 13u team advanced to the State Tournament but fell short in the championship game finishing 2nd. We also had a very successful Fall Season with over 300 kids participating as well as Flag Football where we had 78 Teams total playing across our divisions. Brent Helphenstine was re-elected VP and Brian Plichta was elected Secretary. Other executive officers remaining included Mike Kugler President, Jason Csukas Treasurer, and Tom Knight Baseball Director.
2018 - Norwin Little League enters its inaugural year forming its own Little League Charter after working with Little League and County Line Little League to form the new Norwin LL map which includes the Norwin School District. Norwin LL was awarded a grant and we added a field at New Hope Church off of Lincoln Way in North Huntingdon. The field is officially opened for the start of our Fall Season after many hours of work. In the Spring we had 9 Little Slugger Teams, 8 Little Bantam Teams, 12 Bantam Teams, 9 JR Teams, and 7 SR teams plus pony. We had LL teams for the LL10U and 12U tournaments. Our 10U LL team won the District 4 Title, Section 2 Title, and advanced to the State Championship where they went 1-2 and finished in the top 6 teams left in the State. Our 12U team lost a tough battle in the District 4 Championship after losing their first game and battling all the way through the losers bracket to lose to C-Side LL who they beat the day prior. We had a very successful All Star Season with other all Star Teams which included teams in the 7U, 8U, 9U, 11U, 12U division as well. We had 347 Kids in our Fall Baseball Program.
