Engaging the Other - A Camp for Service and Reflection
This camp will explore the Marist commitment to engaging those on the margins of our Atlanta community, giving students a deeper understanding of why we serve the way that we do at Marist School. We will explore questions such as:
Who are the people that our society pushes out to the margins?
What does it mean to serve them in a Marist way?
What is the basis of structuring our community service as a means to engage people who our own society deems 'the other'?
Grounded in Marist values and spirituality, this camp will provide students an opportunity to visit community service sites, participate in direct service and deepen their relationships with and understanding of people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, refugees and immigrants.
Additionally, the hours of community service will be able to count towards their required hours for the 2018-2019 school year.
We will visit:
-- Holy Comforter and/or L'Arche Community
-- Trinity House & Central Presbyterian Church
-- Friends of Refugees and/or Refugee Resettlement
-- and more to be determined
