2019 Charlton Little League Softball

Player & Parent All–Star Team Commitment Form

Due: Saturday, June 8, 2019

Charlton Little League Softball provides the opportunity for participation in the Little League sanctioned All–Star Tournaments following the end of the regular league season.  These Tournaments are comprised of All-Star teams from the individual leagues throughout Little League Softball worldwide.  This is a highly competitive and very intense tournament that provides an extraordinary learning experience for each of the participants.  It is considered an honor to represent your league as an All-Star.  Before you can be placed on the ballot in your league for consideration, you must read, and sign the attached Commitment Form.

COMMITMENT:

To be considered as a qualified nominee, players must have played in no fewer than 60% of the games in his/her league during the regular season. They also must have exemplary skills and ATTITUDE, and be recognized by peers, managers, and coaches for their playing ability during the regular season. The Executive Board of Charlton Softball Association, even after selected to the team, may remove any player or coach determined to not be available for the entire tournament, from the team and a replacement player or coach may be named.

Regular Season Performance and Playing Ability - High levels of regular season performance, leadership, and playing ability will be recognized by managers and coaches via manager nominations and manager/coach voting on nominees.  In the opinion of the individual team manager/coach, each All-Star Player chosen must demonstrate softball skills in the highest tier of the players within their age group.

Personal/Family Commitment – Each player must be willing to commit himself/herself completely to the All-Star team and the schedule as set forth by the Manager and tournament officials.  This may mean committing the bulk of the summer months, (especially for Major League, and above) practicing and participating in the tournament.  The player is expected to attend every practice and game, and will not be excused without a valid reason.  Unexcused absences, as determined by the Manager and the Executive Board of Directors, may be penalized, which may include removal from the team. Vacations are not considered excused absences.

All-Star Tournaments:

All–Star tournaments begin at the District Level and progress through several levels of play, depending upon the age group.  Age groups 9-10 Teams progress to the State Level and possibly the Invitational in Pennsylvania, while Major (11-12 year olds) and Junior teams culminate at a World Series Level.  Each Team entered is committed to participate throughout each level until eliminated.  Parents will be required to participate with extra expenses as needed.  Charlton Little League Softball may cover a portion of Player and Manager expenses.  Supplemental fees will be determined and communicated to parents in a timely manner.  Additionally, parents will be required to volunteer during the Tournament (keeping score, announcer, etc…).  It is the intent of Charlton Little League Softball to enter the best-qualified, most competitive team(s) possible to represent the league in this prestigious post-season event and continue to increase the level of visibility our league receives year after year.  We would like as many parents to come out and show their support of District 5 Little League as well as supporting Charlton Little League Softball.

 Playing Time:

All–Star Tournaments operate under the Little League Tournament Rules.  These rules are DIFFERENT from those used during the regular season.  Given that the objective of the All-Star tournament is to field the best teams with the best players at any one time – Be aware that the All-Star Manager is only required to play a player for SIX (6) consecutive outs, and at least ONE (1) at bat in the entire game.  If the team carries 13 players on a roster, the mandatory playing time is ONE (1) at bat in the entire game.  This sometimes means that players (typically those that are not starters) on the roster may only get a minimum amount of playing time during tournament games.  It is the sole discretion of the Manager to make these decisions, and substitution may be very fluid as games unfold during the tournament play.  For both parents and players, we realize that we are representatives of Charlton Little League Softball and will honor and exemplify the principles of Little League at all times.  This includes playing ability, sportsmanship and respect for other players, coaching and umpiring staff.

DOCUMENTATION FOR TOURNAMENT PLAY:

·       Original Birth Certificate

·       3 proof of residence, only one utility bill

All other documentation regarding age and eligibility was provided during regular season registration.  Should any information be missing, and your child is chosen for a team, Charlton Little League Softball will notify you directly in order to bring the documentation to a mandatory meeting.

Note to Parents - Your players MUST be available for the dates above - No exceptions. It is not fair to the other players and families who were nominated and missed selection so we must enforce this to the highest degree.  There is a possibility that one of the Charlton Little League Softball teams will make it to the State Finals this summer. While the road OUT of Massachusetts would be very difficult, it is not impossible with a good squad. If any of the teams make it out of Massachusetts, they would play for the Regional Championships in late July in Bristol, CT. Parents need to be aware of this and would make plans accordingly to accommodate the team as necessary.

As with any such process, there will be those who do not agree with the League’s decisions.  However, the decision of the League’s Executive Board of Directors will be final. In the event an All-Star Player must be replaced after having been chosen for the team, the replacement player will be chosen from the original list of nominees on the ballots at the time of the team selection.
