St. Vrain FC Player Placement (Changes for 2020)

SVFC Competitive Opportunities

The primary focus of the St. Vrain FC Competitive Program is to foster and facilitate a challenging and fun competitive team sport environment in which our players can continue to develop as soccer players.  Our staff recognizes that each player has a unique set of attributes and abilities.  We take a consistent perspective and place players on a like-minded team that will promote their greatest development and enable them to reach his or her full potential.  We do this by accurately evaluating each player throughout the training year. Starting in 2017, SVFC will be taking a longer term perspective to player selection and team placement.

Returning U11 – U19 SVFC Competitive Players (Changed for 2020)

Returning players will be evaluated at training and matches throughout the year by their team coach and other SVFC staff coaches. SVFC coaches will have made a comprehensive evaluation of current players over the course of  the season and prior to player selection. Each player will have a meeting with their coach the week following their last regular season game (usually in the first week of May for all U11-14 players and for boys U15-19 and in Decmber for U15-19 girls).  At this point, the team formation process begins.  Please be sure to complete your Intent to Play registration through your family's account page.

Incoming U11's

For incoming U11 players, we experience a large influx from the recreational leagues. Therefore, a formal tryout event is still the most efficient way to get players into the program.  Although a traditional two-day tryout will be a factor in placement, performance during the season in games and in training will also be weighted significantly.  This means that consistency and discipline will be more important than a two-day showing.  SVFC coaches will have made a comprehensive evaluation of current players throughout the season and prior to player selection.

Incoming U9's

A traditional two-day tryout will be the primary factor in placement. However, an SVFC staff member(s) will monitor and observe Recreational In-House U8 games throughout the spring season with the added benefit to further the staff's knowledge of the potential player pool.

Player Placement for New SVFC Competitive Players

Non-SVFC players and SVFC Recreational players currently U9 and older who would like to be considered for placement on a SVFC Competitive team need to be observed at a team training for evaluation.  You are welcome to request an opportunity to be evaluated at any point in the season.

If you are not currently in our Competitive Program and would like to schedule an evaluation please complete this form.  (All form submissions after 7/1/20 will be responded to in when the teams begin training)  Also, please be sure to register your "intent to play" in your account so that you can appear on all necessary lists and communications.

Should you not hear from a staff member within 3 business days (72 hours), feel free to contact your age group DOC directly.

Timeline for Returning Competitive Players

U11-U14 players already in the Competitive Program will be offered spots prior to the registration deadline for us to register teams with CSA (Currently set for Early July). Not all returning players are guaranteed a spot within the program the following year. The U11 through U14 age groups compete during both the fall and spring seasons.

For high school age groups, boys teams compete in the spring for club and girls teams compete in the fall for club.  Once High School Soccer begins in the off-season, the U15+ Boys and Girls will have different timelines.  Here is a link to a sample Annual Calendar for each Age group.  (Some Changes due to... well... you know...)

Upon completion of team selection and player registration, information regarding the club’s Annual Planning Meeting will be disseminated via various channels.

Communication Regarding Multiple Sport Athletes

We recognize that many players enjoy other sports.  Once your player has committed to his or her team, communication with the coach is key to making good training decisions to prevent over-training and injury to the player.  If you know that your child will have conflicts with other sports or significant family/school commitments (e.g., participation in a band group that travels to perform or performs a great deal on weekends), you should discuss that with the coaching staff PRIOR to team placement so that the number of offered spots for other players can be taken into consideration and no team is left short-handed.  When you accept a team placement, you are committing to all the player expectations for the team. The higher the level of team, the greater the expectation for training, commitment, travel and costs.
