United Soccer Alliance of Indiana proudly announces another of its alumni has become a professional soccer player. Former Indy Burn ’90 Boys Eagles player Baba Omosegon today signed with Indy Eleven, the new Indianapolis professional soccer team.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be among the first players on the Indy Eleven roster. Calling Indiana my home makes this opportunity even more special, and one that I am taking very seriously,” said Omosegbon. “The opportunity to ply my trade here and grow as a player on and off the field in the comfort of a familiar setting is something that couldn’t have come at a better time in my career. I’m very thankful and really looking forward to the challenges and successes we will see in our first season.”
According to Indy Eleven, “The 23-year-old Omosegbon is a 2012 Harvard University graduate who balanced the completion of his neurobiology degree with a steady varsity soccer career. The Nigeria native who has spent all but the first year of his life in North America is a former attendee of Brebeuf Jesuit High School who also enrolled at the sport-specific Shattuck-Saint Mary’s Center of Excellence in Faribault, Minn., before heading to Harvard. As a four-year defensive mainstay for the Crimson between 2008-11, he accumulated 60 appearances and, during his sophomore campaign, played a crucial starting role on a highly ranked 2009 squad that made the final 16 of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship tournament.”
“On behalf of the Indy Eleven Technical Staff, we are elated about the signing of Baba Omosegbon. Baba is a product of the Hoosier State and played the majority of his developmental years right here (editor note: Indy Burn and Brebeuf) as a part of our strong soccer community,” said Indy Eleven Coach Sommer. ”Baba’s collegiate experiences, work ethic and strength of character convinced me he is on track for a great professional career with Indy Eleven. We look forward to working with Baba next year in our inaugural season.”
Omosegbon’s former Indianapolis Club team, USA of Indiana’s Indy Burn ’90 Boys Eagles Premier, won 8 consecutive Indiana State Championships, traveled to Regionals multiple times, won a Regional II Championship and played in the US Youth National Championship. USA of Indiana is proud of the hard work and dedication each of the Eagles, all 19 went on to play Division 1 in college and now many have turned pro.
