Fall Ball Softball

We've re-structured softball this fall to include more divisions. We will have a Rookies division for the youngest of players, a 10U division, and a 13U division. Registration closes 8/13 and teams will be divided up evenly between the coaches selected for the fall ball season. If your daughter is new to the league, then please email us after you register to let us know the experience level and skill of your daughter.

Practices will begin as early as August 16th with games every weekend starting September 9th and ending October 14th. Games will be scheduled with other leagues and some travel may be involved. The majority of games will be played as double headers at our Simplot Sports Complex.

Attendance at practices and games is not as strict as it is in the spring because many players are playing multiple sports. However, your child is still expected to keep a reasonable balance between the sports and not miss a majority of the games.

This season has three divisions:

  • Rookies
  • 10U
  • 13U

The goal of fall ball softball is to prepare your daughter for the next spring season. While the fall ball season is low key compared to spring ball, your daughter might play at a more advanced level, and possibly larger field, than they played in the spring. If your child has no experience playing softball, the spring season might be the more appropriate season to begin playing.

Divisions Offered

  • This division is played with kids league age 6, 7, and 8. This is a co-ed division new for the 2017 season. If your son or daughter was 6, 7, or 8 on January 1st of 2017, then they can play in this division. Players that are league age 7 or 8 that excel in softball will be considered for the 10U division. They will need to request to play up by emailing the league after registering online. Important notes about this division:

    • Games will be played on Rookies division fields.
    • Coaches will pitch underhand soft toss from the pitcher's area.
    • Games will follow normal baseball/softball rules and outs will count.
    • Depending on participation, likely just one practice and one game per week will be held. The goal is to have a practice on Monday and a game on Tuesday or Wednesday so as not to interfere with sports typically played on Fridays and Saturdays in the fall.
    • This division is recommended for players that excelled in Tee Ball and will move up to Rookies 8U next spring, players that will remain in Rookies 8U next spring, and players that are completely new to softball and need significant guidance and confidence building.
  • This division is played with girls league age 8 to 10. Determine your player's league age by referencing the Babe Ruth Age Chart. Important notes about this division:

    • Batters will face live pitching. Some pitchers are more advanced than others and your child does face the very real risk of being beaned by a softball while batting.
    • Most teams will practice once per week.
    • This division is recommended for players from the spring season that played in 8U Rookies or 10U Minors. If your child has not played softball, then it is strongly recommended to begin play in the spring season so they can play in an environment that is appropriate for their development.
Learn more about the rules and what to expect in this division by reading the information on our 10U Minors softball page.
  • This division is played with girls league age 11 to 13. Determine your player's league age by referencing the Babe Ruth Age Chart. Important notes about this division:

    • Games will be played on the Simplot Sports Complex softball fields following typical 12U Majors rules.
    • This is a higher level of softball than 10U. If your child has not played softball, then it is strongly recommended to begin play in the spring season so they can play in an environment that is appropriate for their development, or consider playing down in the 10U division for the fall season.
    • Playing 12U fall ball softball does not mean that your child will automatically be placed on a 12U Majors team in the spring. They will still need to assess in the spring in order to be placed on a 12U Majors team.
Learn more about the rules and what to expect in this division by reading the information on our 12U Majors page.
