Fall Ball Baseball

Fall ball is a season that has grown considerably for EBYBS over the last few years. In 2017, fall ball assessments will be held August 19th, with games starting by the end of August and each weekend (excluding Labor Day Weekend) until mid-October. Attendance at practices and games is not as strict as it is in the spring because many players are playing multiple sports. However, your child is still expected to keep a reasonable balance between the sports and not miss a majority of the games and practices. Depending on the number of teams in the division, generally a double header each Saturday is played with 10-12 games in the regular season. Older divisions will occasionally travel to games against other leagues. These travel dates will be local and only on Saturdays.

This season has four divisions:

  • Rookies
  • 60'
  • 70'
  • 90'

The goal of fall ball is to prepare your child for the next spring season. While the fall ball season is low key compared to spring ball, your child might play at a more advanced level, and possibly larger field, than they played in the spring. If your child has no experience playing baseball, the spring season might be the more appropriate season to begin playing baseball. If your child is inexperienced and is age 6/7/8, then they would be eligible for the Rookies division. This is a slower paced division that still follows real baseball rules.

All players will be required to assess with their age group in order to be placed on a team. If your child does not attend assessments, and did not assess in the spring season, they do run the risk of not being placed on a team. If you would like your child to play up from Rookies to the 60' division, then they must assess. Because of safety concerns, there are no exceptions to this rule.

DIVISIONS OFFERED

  • This division is played with kids league age 6, 7, and 8. Inexperienced players that are league age 9 may also be accepted. If your son or daughter was 6, 7, or 8 on May 1st of 2017, then they belong in this division. Players that are league age 7 or 8 that excel in baseball will be considered for the 60' division. They will need to assess with the 60' players to be considered for a 60' team. Important notes about this division:

    • Games will be played on Rookies division fields.
    • Coaches will pitch underhand soft toss from the pitcher's area.
    • Games will follow normal baseball rules and outs will count.
    • Depending on participation, likely just one practice and one game per week will be held. The goal is to have a practice on Monday and a game on Tuesday or Wednesday so as not to interfere with sports typically played on Fridays and Saturdays in the fall.
    • This division is recommended for players that excelled in Tee Ball and will move up to Rookies next spring, players that will remain in Rookies next spring, and players that are completely new to baseball and need significant guidance and confidence building.
  • This division is played with kids league age 8 and 9. If your son was 8 or 9 on May 1st of 2017, and has experience in kid pitch leagues or is ready for the challenge of moving beyond machine pitch, then they belong in this division. Important notes about this division:

    • Batters will face live pitching from players that played spring ball in Majors 60's and Minors. Some pitchers are more advanced than others and your child does face the very real risk of being hit by a baseball while batting.
    • Most teams will practice once per week, no team will practice more than twice per week.
    • This division is recommended for players from the spring season that played in Majors 60's or Minors. Players that excelled in the Rookies division are also a good fit for 60' fall ball. If your child is in this age range and has not played baseball, then it is strongly recommended to begin play in the spring season or in the fall Rookies division so they can play in an environment that is appropriate for their development.

  • This division is played with kids league age 10 and 11. If your son was 10 or 11 on May 1st of 2017, and played in Majors 60's or Majors 70's in the spring, then they belong in this division. Important notes about this division:

    • Games will be played on the Majors 70's fields following typical Majors 70's rules.
    • This is a higher level of baseball than Majors 60's. If your child has not played baseball, then it is strongly recommended to begin play in the spring season so they can play in an environment that is appropriate for their development, or play on the 60' field with younger players.
    • Playing 70' fall ball does not mean that your child will automatically play Majors 70's in the spring. They will still need to assess in the spring and might be placed on a Majors 60's team.

  • This division is played with kids league age 12, 13, and 14. If your son was 12, 13, or 14 on May 1st of 2017, then they belong in this division. Important notes about this division:

    • Games will be played on the full sized baseball fields with 90' base paths following typical Juniors rules.
    • If your child played as a league age 12 player in Majors 60's or Majors 70's in the spring season, they will automatically move up to 14U in the fall.
