Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Participation in Ewing United Soccer Association (“EUSA”) events requires parents, guardians, volunteers, staff, and players to agree in writing to the following, which is promulgated under N.J.S.A. § 5:17-3.

Preamble:
Youth sports programs play an important role in promoting the social, physical, and emotional development of children. It is therefore essential for parents, coaches and officials to encourage youth athletes to embrace the values of good sportsmanship. Moreover, adults involved in youth sports events should be models of good sportsmanship and should lead by example by demonstrating respect, fairness and self control.

I therefore pledge to be responsible for my words and actions while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in a youth sports event and shall conform to the following code of conduct:

1.  I will promote the emotional and physical well being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire for my child to win.

2.  I will not, and will expect my child not to, ridicule or yell at any participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.

3.  I will refrain from coaching my child during a game.

4.  I will not, and will expect my child or others not to, engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or other attendee, such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, using profane language or gestures, etc.

5.  I will not practice or encourage any behavior that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.

6.  I will, and will expect my child to, treat others with respect regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or ability.

7.  I will, and will expect my child to, respect the officials and coaches and their authority at all times.

8.  I will not question, criticize, or confront coaches when children are present.

9.  I will not use drugs or alcohol while at a youth sports event and will not attend, coach, officiate or participate in a youth sports event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

10.  I will not permit my child, or encourage any other person, to use drugs or alcohol before or while attending a youth sports event.

I hereby agree that violating this code of conduct shall constitute sufficient grounds for any official of EUSA, the Township of Ewing, or their agents to eject me from any EUSA event and possibly prohibit my attendance at subsequent events. I understand that sporting activities entail inherent risk of physical injury. I agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless, EUSA, the Township of Ewing, their agents, servants, volunteers or employees, and each and every one of them, against and from all suits, claims, losses, or damages which may arise as a result of injury to any person or property damage as a result of any act or omission on the part of EUSA or the Township of Ewing, their agents, servants, volunteers or employees.
