4/5 Year-Old Scrimmages

All practices and scrimmages for the 4/5 League will be on Saturdays for one hour. Starting week 4, teams will practice for the first half hour and scrimmage for the second half. Scrimmages are to be played as four 8-minute quarters with a 5-minute half-time and 2-minute breaks after 1st & 3rd quarters.  Each coach will be on the field during the games and will also be the referees for the games.

Players use a size 3 ball for this league. If you need to purchase a soccer ball, please buy the appropriate size.  Any size may be used, but I strongly encourage that you supply your child with the size that that they will play with in games.  It is not mandatory that your child have their own ball, but we will practice many drills that require each child to have a ball and if your child needs to share, they will miss out on some important practice time.

Jerseys: players should get the same green and yellow jerseys used in the youth league. Jerseys from older siblings and previous years are perfectly acceptable. Always bring both colors to games just in case. It is not necessary to wear jerseys for the first three weeks when teams are not yet scrimmaging, but children frequently like to wear them to feel official and this is perfectly acceptable.

Shin guards and footwear: Even 4/5  year olds need shin guards that are covered by socks. Please have your child wear these to ALL practices and games. Cleats are not necessary but encouraged; cleats may NOT have a toe-cleat.

Cost

$50 for the first child, and $30 for the second child. Maximum registration cost per family for the youth and 4/5 soccer program is $80. There is no charge for additional children beyond the first two registered children, though all participants must be fully registered. If you wish to speak with someone about a scholarship, please email [email protected].

REFUND POLICY – It is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to inform the NJSL of a refund request, before August 19th.  Refunds will be given only in the following circumstances: 1) the family moves out of town, or 2) a written doctor’s excuse presented  before August 19th, or, 3) a registrant cannot be placed on a team. Special consideration is given to NJSL players who try out and are placed on a local high school soccer team.

Please familiarize yourself with the following:

Inclement Weather
Thunder and/or lightning rule - A coach can call practice/ scrimmage if the weather is severe.  If there is thunder or lightning for practice/ scrimmage, a coach will call it.  Safety is always first. If it is just raining, practice and games will continue.

Spectator Seating
Nobody is allowed to sit or stand at either end of the field during games. All spectators are to be on the opposite side of the field from the teams.

Snacks and Drinks
Parents for each team help with halftime drink and post game snacks.  The coach should set up a rotation and send it to you and provide you with any allergies on your team.
