TOPSoccer is open to any child, age three* or older, regardless of diagnosis or ability. Our players include children with autism, Down syndrome, intellectual and motor challenges, Cerebral Palsy, and other disabilities.

(*enrolled child must turn 4 by July 31, 2019)

Our TOPSoccer goal is to include as many of the Triad’s young athletes with disabilities as possible into the youth soccer family.  Registration is free.

Important Details

The program is held SIX Sundays in the Fall and again in the Spring at Proehlific Park’s indoor turf field (located at 4517 Jessup Grove Road in Greensboro). Because the field is turf, children that use aids for mobility are easily able to participate.

Dates

Spring 2019 play dates are March 10, 17, 24 & 31 and April 7 & 14, 2019 from 4:00pm-5:00pm. The sessions will consist of fun, child centered soccer skills adapted to the needs of each individual player.

 Volunteers Needed

TOPSoccer relies on many different organizations as well as GUSA soccer players to have a successful season.  We need Coaches, Buddies, and other supportive roles. Anyone 12 years or older is encouraged to volunteer and is required to attend a training session prior to the start of the season. All volunteers working in direct contact with the players are required to:

   1    be available at least four of the six play dates;

   2    attend a training session at Proehlific Park on March 10, 2019 at 3:00pm;

   3    complete the risk management form: Click Here.
(Risk Management application only has to be completed ONCE per seasonal year.  If you have already completed this for the 2018-2019 soccer seasonal year, you do NOT have to do it again. You cannot participate until you have completed this task.  In addition to the Risk Management Application, volunteers will also have to complete Abuse Prevention Training.  Information on how to complete that training will be sent at a later date. The Abuse Prevention Training also only needs to be completed once per year.  You do NOT have to complete it again if you have already done so earlier in the 2018-2019 seasonal year.  Minors must complete the Risk Management Application and the Abuse Prevention Training too).

   4    and enroll as a TOPSoccer Volunteer:  Login to your GUSA account and register as a TOPSoccer VOLUNTEER.  Please do not register as a "Participant".  If you do not have a GUSA account, please create one.  The Link to Volunteer Registration is at this bottom of this page.

   5    Volunteer registration is open and will close at 11:59pm on March 1, 2019.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Coaches

Each coach will supervise a small group of players and their soccer buddies as they participate in the stations and games. In this non-competitive league the goals are learning and having fun, so the job of the coach will be to facilitate and encourage each player to do their best. We ask that each coach commit to volunteer for the full season. A manual with detailed lesson plans, pointers and resources is provided to all coaches. Coaches are required to attend the volunteer training session.

Soccer Buddies

Soccer buddies are the most important part of the team. Your goal is to keep the player engaged in the game and to have fun. You can assist by modeling the skills and encouraging them to do their best. Experience with soccer or special needs is welcome, but not necessary. Since consistency is important for our players we ask that buddies commit to at least 4 of the play dates. Soccer buddies are required to attend the volunteer training session.

Additional Supportive Roles

If you want to volunteer but cannot commit to the majority of the play dates, we will find a way to involve you. We need volunteers in many other areas, including first day registration and photographer. Any volunteer who will not work directly with the players is encouraged to attend the training session.
