2019 Summer & Fall Cheering

How old does my child have to be to cheer?

We have 4 cheerleading squads. Flag, Minor, Junior and Senior:
Flag cheerleaders are 5 to 7 years old by Sept. 30, 2019
Minor cheerleaders are 8 to 9 years old by Sept. 30, 2019
Junior cheerleaders are 10 to 11 years old by Sept. 30, 2019
Senior cheerleaders are 12 to 14 years old by Sept. 30, 2019

How much does cheering with PAA cost?

The basic cost for Flag cheerleaders is $245. The basic cost for Minor, Junior or Senior cheerleaders is $265.

The fees due at sign-ups are:
- Flag cheerleaders - $105 ($20 PAA Dues and $85 Cheer Registration)
- Minor, Junior and Senior cheerleaders - $125 ($20 PAA Dues and $105 Cheer Registration)

Each family only needs to pay PAA dues once per year. So if your family paid dues to participate in either the current baseball or softball season, you don't need to pay the PAA dues again for cheer! Also, if your family has more than one athlete participating in any sports during the year, you still only pay the fee once.

This registration fee includes the costs for participation in a one-day cheer camp, and several cheer competitions!

The cheer uniform fee of $140 will be due on August 1st for all squads for all new cheerleaders. The cheer uniform consists of a vest, long sleeve shirt, skirt, briefs, socks and a hair bow. If you purchased a cheer uniform last summer or during the last basketball season, you will only need to purchase new cheer socks ($5). If you purchased a cheer uniform before last summer, you will only need to purchase the new long sleeve shirt ($32), briefs ($9) and socks ($5).

Also, cheer shoes and other additional, personalized accessories can be purchased as well.

What are the sign-up dates for cheering?
Saturday, May 4th, 10am-11:30am - Providence Elementary (front of school)
Saturday, May 11th, 10am-11:30am - Providence Elementary (front of school)
Friday, May 17th, 5pm-7pm - Providence Elementary Spring Carnival
Saturday, June 1st, 10am-11:30am - A.M. Davis Elementary (bus loop)
Tuesday, June 25th, 6:30pm to 7:30pm - Providence Elementary (front of school)

What is the cheer camp? Is attendance required?
We will attend a cheer camp hosted by FAME All Stars at their Oak Lake Blvd facility on August 24th! The FAME All Stars cheerleaders teach our teams jumps, stunts, cheers, dances and more! We've done this several times over the past few years, and it has been an amazing experience! The Flag cheerleaders will attend the camp from 9am to noon, and the other squads will attend from 9am to 3pm (and will need to bring a lunch).

It is not required that anyone attend this camp. We know that families are on vacation and traveling during the summer, but we do highly recommend participation because the teams learn advanced cheer skills, do some great team building and have fun!

When does practice start? Where are practices held?
Our first practice will be held on July 8th, at 6:30pm at Providence Elementary for all squads!!
After that, our cheer practice schedule will be as follows:
Flag Squad: Tuesdays and Fridays, 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Minor Squad: Mondays, Thursday and Fridays, 6:30pm to 7:45pm
Junior Squad: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30pm to 8pm

All practices will be held at Providence Elementary School.

Will our cheerleaders cheer at football games?
Currently, PAA does not have a football program. During the summer and fall months, our practices will be focused on preparing for cheer competitions that will be held during the month of October. The Flag squad will participate in 2 cheer competitions, and the Minor, Junior and Senior squads will participate in 3 cheer competitions.

However, we do sideline cheering for our PAA basketball program in the winter months!!

How can parents help?
Great question!
We are always in need of cheer coaches, team parents and volunteers to help with all the activities we have planned during the season!

If you are interested in helping to coach, previous cheering experience is great, but you do not need it! In fact, the Chesterfield Cheerleader League will be holding a coach's clinic on July 27th, at Thomas Dale High School from 9am to noon, to help teach both new and returning coaches skills about cheering, stunting, tumbling and choreography!

So please let us know if you would like to help. PAA is a volunteer organization, and we definitely need all of our parents to participate and assist in order to be successful.
