Coach Pitch Rules
The Playing Rules for Tom Braun U8 Instructional Coach Pitch League
1. 11” NCAA Fast Pitch Softball
2. Playing Field:
Bases: 45 ft. (Typically 5 Fence Polls)
Infield Safety: Arch 27ft. from Home Plate. Pitching Circle eight (8) ft. radius around the pitcher’s plate
3. Game:
5 Innings or 1 Hour 15 Minutes.
4. Defensive Positions:
Each team must have:
o Infield:
Pitcher, First, Second, Shortstop, & Third baseman.
It is the coach’s discretionary if they would like to play a catcher.
o Outfield:
Minimal 3 Outfielders. It is the coach’s discretion to play rest of players on team in outfield
and\or sit players out until their time to play.
5. Batting Order / Lineup:
Team with the least amount of batters sets the maximum number of batters allowed in the lineup.
o I.e. If One Team has 20 Players and another Team has 15 Players. The team with 20 players can only
have 15 players in the Batting Lineup. They can however rotate the players in and out of the lineup.
6. Coach‐Pitcher:
Shall be a member of the team’s coaching staff, and shall pitch the ball in an underhand motion to each batter of
his/her team. At the coach’s discretion, he/she may move forward from the pitching rubber to a position that
will allow them to deliver a hittable ball to the batter
7. Inning:
3 Outs or 5 Runs (Which ever comes first. This speeds the game up and helps the girls better understand the
game)
If the player is out, the player must return to the bench.
8. Batter:
Each batter will be allowed eight pitches to bat the ball in play. A batted foul ball on the eighth pitch will not
count as one of the eight pitches. Each batter that fails to bat the ball in play will be given a chance to hit the ball
off the Batting T.
9. Infield Fly Rule:
Not in Effect
10. Dropped Third Strike:
Not in Effect
11. Base Stealing:
Not allowed, including home
12. Sportsmanship
You can never have enough of it. It is a rule that softball players not be abusive to teammates,
coaches, opponents or parents. Plus it’s a life skill that outweighs all your softball drills and skills.
