Results and Outcomes
In 2013, United Way invested $10.22 million in 133 funded programs resulting in measurable impact in the areas of Basic Needs, Income, Health, Safety, Youth and Senior Recreation, Domestic Violence and Youth Mentoring.
BASIC NEEDS
Over $1.1 million or 11% of United Way funding was invested in programs providing basic human needs such as food, clothing, rent, financial assistance and health care. Read more about United Way and Basic Needs.
- 89,228 individuals received assistance with their short term needs for food, clothing and shelter during times of crisis or disaster.
- 3,748 nutritious meals were provided to over 1,700 youth and 1,500 seniors with the help of United Way funding.
EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING AND INCOME
Nearly $800,000 or 8% of United Way funding was invested in programs helping individuals and families become independent through employment and income assistance, transitional and permanent housing. Read more about United Way and Employment, Housing and Income.
- 14,780 services were provided to help individuals and families become independent through employment and income assistance, transitional and permanent housing.
- 8,160 services provided households the help they needed to avoid homelessness through rental and utility assistance, transitional housing and preparation for home ownership.
HEALTH
Nearly $1.3 million or 13% of United Way funding was invested in programs helping individuals stay healthy and live productive lives. Read more about United Way and Health.
- Nearly 51,335 services were delivered to patients throughout the Omaha Council Bluffs area. These services provide patients with necessary health care, medical equipment, infant care and vaccinations.
- 327 immunizations were provided to infants and children providing them protection from life threatening disease.
- 1,600 seniors at a United Way funded program are now able to improve the distance they can walk, helping them remain independent in their own homes.
MENTAL HEALTH
Nearly $1.5 million or 15% of United Way funding was invested in programs helping individuals increase their daily functioning and coping skills, achieving better mental health. Read more about United Way and Mental Health.
- 3,739 services were provided to help individuals increase their daily functioning and coping skills, achieving better mental health.
- 2,057 individuals in our community experienced the renewed ability to work or attend school after reducing their drug and alcohol use, taking the steps necessary to overcome depression, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and building strong support systems.
SAFETY, VOLUNTEERS AND DISASTER
Over $650,000 or 6% of United Way funding was invested in programs engaging community volunteers, providing disaster preparedness/ recovery and teaching lifesaving skills. Read more about United Way and Safety, Volunteers and Disaster.
- 43,202 services helped engage community volunteers, provided disaster preparedness/ recovery and teaching lifesaving skills.
- 20,679 individuals were educated on the steps necessary to prepare for a disaster.
- 1,099 individuals received disaster assistance for food, clothing, shelter and medication.
SENIOR RECREATION
Over $220,000 or 2% of United Way funding was invested in programs helping older adults with physical fitness and recreational activities keeping them physically and mentally strong to live independently. Read more about United Way and Senior Recreation.
- 6,072 services were provided to older adults, helping them improve their physical fitness and engage in meaningful social activities.
SEXUAL ASSAULT AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Over $840,000 or 8% of United Way funding was invested in programs keeping victims free from domestic violence and abuse. Read more about United Way and Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.
- 13,107 services were provided to help keep victims safe from domestic violence.
YOUTH MENTORING AND PARENT EDUCATION
Over $850,000 or 8% of United Way funding was invested in programs helping children and youth succeed in school and providing parents the support they need. Read more about United Way and Youth Mentoring and Parent Education.
- 2,800 services were provided to help children and youth succeed in school and provide parents the support they need.
- 1,040 children and youth experienced greater success in school.
YOUTH RECREATION
Nearly $1.1 million or 11% of United Way funding was invested in programs providing recreational opportunities to help youth succeed in life. Read more about United Way and Youth Recreation.
- 448,060 services were provided to teach youth positive leadership skills, strengthen their swimming skills and provide healthy recreational activities.
YOUTH RESOURCES
Nearly $1.9 million or 18% of United Way funding was invested in programs providing resources to help youth succeed in life. Read more about United Way and Youth Resources.
- 20,870 services were provided to help youth succeed in school, teach youth positive leadership and social skills.
- 2,148 youth achieved greater success in school.
- 720 youth learned positive social skills such as self-control, conflict resolution and peer relations.
