Congratulations to the 12U Roxbury Baseball Travel team who won the Cal Ripken Northern NJ District 7 Championship on Monday, June 27th. In the finals, Roxbury (4-2) beat Caldwell (5-0) 11-0 in 5 innings. To reach the championship game, Roxbury beat yet another undefeated team, Wayne PAL, in the semifinals 10-1. Head Coach Mike Paxos, commented after the game, “This is the way it was meant to be for our group. There was magic in the air!.”
The team has been playing together for 5 years striving to keep the Roxbury baseball tradition alive by bringing home a District 7 Championship banner to the home field at Kiwanis. The team lineup comprised of: AJ Montrose, Anthony Viscardi, Carter Smith, Christos Paxos, DJ Benfatti, Frank Seretis, Jaret Haupt, Nehemiah Machigua, Nicolas Olives, Robbie Greary, Ryan Parker, Ryan Valentine, Sebastian Sanabria, TJ Hellner.
Roxbury advanced to the State Tournament held in East Brunswick. The team’s third appearance in five years in States came to an end yesterday with a (1-3) effort. Special thanks to the coaching staff led by Head Coach Mike Paxos and Assistant Coaches, Jim Haupt, Paul Olives, Anthony Viscardi, and Greg Montrose. Special thanks to all the wonderful parents, grandparents and fans who supported and cheered us on until the end. Our beloved Coach Steve Sanabria continues to hold a special place in this team’s heart with the final victory as District Championship winners.
