2020 Year in Review

St Vrain FC Teammates,

As we near the end of what has been a very memorable 2020, the St Vrain FC Technical Staff and Board of Directors would like to step back and collectively take stock of where we are as an organization and soccer community.  We feel it is important to reflect both on where we have been, as well as where we are going in 2021 and beyond.

First and foremost, we would like to thank all of you, our SVFC soccer family, for your steadfast belief in the club.  Without your unwavering support of our organization and what we do for the players, we would not have made it through 2020.  Because of you, we have continued to thrive under challenge, and were able to experience more of the on-field success that has become a staple of St Vrain FC.

In the Fall 2020 season alone, we had seven teams finish in the top three in their respective leagues, with our 2005 Girls Green, 2008 Boys Green, and 2002 Girls Blue teams all finishing top of the table.  Additionally, four teams - 2003 Girls Green, 2010 Boys Green, 2008 Boys Green, 2007 Boys Green - earned mid-year promotion by finishing in the top three of their respective Champion’s League Divisions.  As the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) modified their schedule, we quickly  put together a successful U15-U19 boys competitive league, including a lineup of impromptu pre-season friendlies with neighboring clubs.  We were also able to safely provide access to local recreational soccer for over 800 kids this fall, keeping them outside and moving during a time when options to remain active were otherwise limited.  Finally, between the spring and fall seasons we had 13 young women and men commit to play college soccer, continuing the club’s tradition of propelling players to the next level.

In addition to all of these on-field successes, the club is also in good standing financially, despite the odds.  The Board of Directors and Technical Staff have worked closely together to ensure that the necessary steps were taken early to not only weather a challenging spring 2020 season in the short term, but to also be able to continue to provide access to quality soccer for the youth in our community long term.  Attached to this note you will find a copy of our most recent internally prepared financials.  As you will see, we have retained a healthy cash position which has enabled us to retain our coaching staff and execute on a successful fall 2020 season.  We were approved for funds from the Paycheck Protection Plan (PPP) and are still expecting to receive full forgiveness on that loan once our bank begins accepting applications.  Knowing that player numbers would be down across the country this fall, we took aggressive action to reduce our expenses and offset the reduced revenue.  While many of these actions strained the organization in both predictable and unpredictable ways, we are so thankful for the support of all of you, our SVFC family, during this unprecedented time.

This last year has been a rollercoaster to say the least.  But, with 2020 almost in our rear view, we are excited to look ahead to 2021 and the possibilities that it holds for our players, their families, our coaches, and our club.  We anticipate continued player and team growth with the ability to celebrate more success in our upcoming spring and fall leagues, in addition to seeing our teams compete in both State Cup and Presidents Cup in the late spring.  We also are eager to continue to provide high quality local recreational options for all kids who want to play, and the ability to resume special programs and camps once restrictions start to lift.

We could not have made it through the past 12 months without all of you, and we cannot wait to see what lies in store for the St Vrain FC soccer community in 2021 and beyond!

Because of all of you, we truly are…

Stronger.
Together.
GO GREEN!

Regards,

St Vrain FC Board of Directors
St Vrain FC Technical Staff
