Functional Training

Metzger Soccer Training was established to meet the training needs of dedicated youth soccer players,
their demand for training outside of their team training and an alternative to the typical camp.

Our aim is to develop better soccer players by teaching and reinforcing the characteristics and abilities that successful players possess.  We believe technique, hard work, fitness, passion for the game, soccer intelligence and athleticism are the keys to becoming a quality soccer player.  We will focus on technical proficiency through repetition and be applying those techniques under pressure to simulate realistic situations soccer players see in competition.

Friday Functional Training  Module I:

A player's ability to receive the ball confidently, clearly and consistently will allow them to make a decision quicker and will ultimately improve their speed of play.  Speed of play is massively important and is what separates good players from average players, great players from good players, etc... The ability to pass the ball accurately, with the correct weight (speed) and texture (spin) also will affect a team's speed of play and ultimately their ability to possess the ball.  This six-week session will help players improve their first touch and passing abilities.

Topics covered will include:

*Proper receiving technique with different surfaces of both feet

*Proper passing technique with different surfaces on both feet

*Receiving balls out of the air

*Receiving balls into the proper space with the appropriate foot

*Body positioning in order to receive the ball properly

*Receiving off the turn

*Bending, swerving and textured passes

* Receiving balls into the proper space with the appropriate foot
