LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell heavyweight Joe Stolfi
(Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) earned his fourth career 5th Quarter
Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week award on Monday following his 4-0
performance at this past weekend’s Virginia Duals. He helped the Bison
to a 2-2 record at the competitive event, including a 25-12 victory over
No. 17 Rider.
Stolfi, who is ranked in the top 20 nationally in his weight class,
posted two pins, one major decision and a tight 3-2 win by decision to
extend his personal winning streak to 11. He is now 24-5 on the year
with 12 wins by fall and 18 total bonus-point victories. He now ranks
tied for third with Bobby Ferraro on Bucknell’s career pins list with 44
and his 86 career victories overall place him 12th on that ledger.
A two-time NCAA qualifier, Stolfi opened the Virginia Duals with a
pin of Nebraska Kearney’s Ivan DeLeon in 2:49. He followed with a 10-2
major decision against Old Dominion’s Matt Tourdot before concluding the
first day of the event with a 3-2 decision over West Virginia’s Anthony
Vizcarrondo.
Bucknell (6-3, 1-0 EIWA) wrapped up the Virginia Duals Saturday
against Rider and Stolfi concluded the victory with a pin of Greg
Velasco. It was his sixth pin during his current 11-bout win streak.
Stolfi has been dominant this season and leads the Bison in victories
(24), dual record (9-0), wins by fall (12) and major decisions (5). He
has top-three finishes at the Clarion Open, Navy Classic and Lock Haven
Invitational and is 15-5 in tournament competition.

25th nationally. Bucknell will be in action this Saturday, Jan. 17, when
it hosts George Mason and Sacred Heart beginning at 11 a.m. Both
