Great Strides double up on victories at Warpath!

The Great Strides team is taking a well deserved "rest day" today after a very busy race weekend!

Saturday, saw the team at the competitive Warpath meet in Canton.   The course was flat, but presented a bit of a challenge because of loose gravel on the back loops. Great Strides didn't let that throw them off their stride and they once again were able to pull off victories in both the girls'

and boys' races.  The race was an especially important one as we ran the race in rememberance of one of our runners' parents, Brett Bower.  It was as if the team knew it was a big deal, because every one of them ran a great race!

With Saturday under our belts, we moved on to the USATF developmental meet on Sunday.  From a flat and fast course, we moved on to tackling the most difficult course of the season!  Hill after hill .....and the HEAT was something right out of the middle of summer!

This was the first time the team had been split into age group divisions for the races - giving us just a little taste of what we would be up against at Junior Olympics.  It was the first time we had even had enough runners to form a team in the 9/10 division and while we only had 5 runners in each of those races - we got a  1st and 3rd!  It bears mentioning that our 5th runner in the boys race in that age group, was by far the youngest runner and he did an amazing job - in spite of having strep on Friday! Way to never quit, Grayson!

The finish of the day was certainly by Mikey W!  A photo finish for sure (actually - I wish we had a photo because it was so awesome!).  He raced someone ( a much bigger someone!) to the finish and beat him by a couple of hundredths of a second!  That is what happens when you never give up!

We took home team medals in all the other age groups that we were able to field a team in - and many, many idividual medals!  Way to go Great Strides!
