Passing of GAP/AMFC founder

The Ohio North soccer community is mourning the loss of former President Ted Williams, who passed away unexpectedly early Monday afternoon at the age of 76.

Ted spent five years as President of the Greater Akron Amateur Soccer Association (GAASA) in the early 1990’s before becoming Vice President of Ohio North. He succeeding Mark Jacobs as President in 1999 and was re-elected twice before stepping down in 2006. He was inducted into the Ohio North Hall of Fame in 2008.

During his tenure, he oversaw the professionalization of the Ohio North office, which included the addition of a full-time Executive Director, Director of Coaching, Registrar and auxiliary staff.  He is also credited with moving the association from a struggling small business to a financially sound non-profit with a membership of over 55,000 players. The Ohio North “field fund” which Williams established, will provide Ohio North with a permanent home in the not-too-distant future.

Ted is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; their children, ER and Jennifer; and their five grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday, March 20th from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Billows Funeral Home, located at 85 N Miller Rd. in Fairlawn. A service will be held at Billows on Saturday morning at 11am.
