About Our League

Mission

The objective of the Cave Spring Little League shall be to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children and will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy citizens.

To achieve this objective Cave Spring Little League will provide a supervised coed program under the rules and regulations of Little League Baseball, Incorporated.  All Directors, Officers and Members shall bear in mind that the attainment of exceptional athletic skill or the winning of games is secondary and the molding of future citizens is of prime importance.

Instructional Tee Ball (4–5-year-olds) An introduction to the game of baseball. The Instructional Tee Ball division serves as a starting point to introduce kids to the basic fundamentals of baseball in a fun and non-competitive setting. Team rosters are relatively small and games last approximately 60 minutes. Batters will hit off of a Tee and no scores or standings will be kept. The goal of this division is to encourage a love for the game and to prepare kids to learn fundamental skills that will help them in their journey through Little League. While all other programs are subject to our boundary requirements, our Instructional Tee Ball program is open to any 4- or 5-year-old in the Roanoke area. 

 Tee Ball (League Age 6-7-year-olds) The Tee Ball division serves as a starting point or next step to introduce kids to the basic fundamentals of baseball in a fun and non-competitive setting. Games last approximately 75 minutes. Batters will hit off of a Tee and no scores or standings will be kept. The goal of this division is to encourage a love for the game and to prepare kids to learn fundamental skills that will help them in their journey through Little League. Any League Age 6-year-old that has not played a season of Tee Ball MUST register for this division.


Coach Pitch (League Age 6–8-year-olds) - This division focuses on learning how to hit a pitched baseball with more focus on the fundamentals of defense and proper swing mechanics. Rosters continue to be kept relatively small, with game times running 90 minutes. Innings are limited to 3 outs, or 5 runs scored (whichever occurs first). No score or standings will be kept. The goal of this division is for each player to improve their skill at hitting a pitched baseball and continuing to improve on their defensive fundamentals. League Age 6-year-olds that have already played at least one season of Tee Ball are eligible to play in this division. 8-year-olds who are evaluated to not be ready for Minor League player pitch may play in Coach Pitch.


Minor League (League Age 8–9-year-olds) - This division focuses on learning how to play competitive baseball while teaching kids to pitch for the first time. Innings are limited to 3 outs or 5 runs and games will run approximately 2 hours. Scores and standings will be kept. The goal of this division is to help players adjust to a higher level of play while beginning to learn and understand the finer rules and strategies of the game. League Age 8-year-olds will evaluate for the Minor League Division but are not guaranteed to be drafted (if not drafted into the Minor League Division, players will be placed in the Coach Pitch Division). Players who participate in this division will be eligible for all-star selection.


Major League (League Age 10 –12-year-olds) - The Majors division focuses on playing competitive baseball per Little League Rules. There are no time limits for games. League Age 10-year-olds will evaluate for Majors but are not guaranteed to be drafted to Majors (if not drafted into the Majors division they will be drafted to a Minor League team). The goal of this division is help players adjust to a higher level and pace of play. Players who participate in this division will be eligible for all-star selection.

Intermediate League (League Age 11-13-year-olds) - The Intermediate Baseball field dimensions are, as the name implies, between those of the traditional Little League diamond and a standard baseball diamond. With a pitching distance of 50 feet and base path distance of 70 feet. This is a great transitional field size for more advanced play before moving up to a standard diamond. Some of the advanced rules are used such as runners being permitted to lead off bases, runners may attempt to steal at any time, and allowing an on-deck batter. batter. League Age 11 and 12-year-olds will evaluate for Intermediate League but are not guaranteed to be drafted to Intermediate (if not drafted into the Intermediate division they will be drafted to a Major League team). League age 11- and 12-year-olds are eligible for all-star selection in their respective age groups.
