Tiny Tots
The Tiny Tots program is designed for boys and girls between the ages of 3 - 6. This is an introduction to soccer so the emphasis is on making sure the players have fun while playing with a soccer ball. Players at this level are not aggressive or competitive so we avoid aggressive type games and skills. We begin the process of teaching them basic passing, dribbling and shooting skills. We have the kids play non-aggressive games such as follow-the-leader, soccer tag, fetch-and-retrieve, red-light/green-light, etc.
Because of the age of the children we expect that at some point each player will have a "bad day". Parents should not worry about this. We have enough insturctors so that we can deal with their "bad days".
Our led instructor, Jon Nash, played high level youth soccer, was all-conference playing with the
Anoka Tornadoes in high school and continues to play soccer today. Jon has been an instructor with NIS for over 15 years, and has been our led instructor for the last 5 years. Jon is great with kids and brings a unique background to the program since he was a youth player in the first year of NIS' existence, has played in all of the NIS youth leagues and in the NIS Open Adult League, has refereed indoor and outdoors, and has provided soccer instruction with NIS and other youth organizations.
Parents are allowed on the field to listen, watch and/or participate, if they want. Parents are not on
the field to coach their child but, instead, to learn a little bit about soccer.
In most years for Spring Indoor, there are 2 or 3 one-hour Tiny Tots groups. Each group will have 7 sessions during the course of the season. The Tiny Tots will meet on Saturday late mornings/early afternoons. There are strict limits on the number of children allowed at each session. Once a session is filled, no more registrations will be taken for that time slot.
Mighty Mites
The Mighty Mites program is designed for boys and girls between the ages of 5 - 8. This is an introduction to individual and game skills. Skills aare taught through creative games where the kids have fun while they learn a skill. Players at this level learn and mature at very different rates. The sessions are designed so that each player will learn or refine their soccer skills no matter what level they are presently at.
