ACADEMY & THUNDER COMPETITIVE CLUB PROGRAM

The Thunder Program is a competitive program devoted to developing young athletes. Thunder provides the most competitive environment with highly qualified pro staff and a curriculum built to improve young athletes in the four components of the game: physically, technically, tactically and psychologically. Thunder’s age appropriate curriculum is inspired by U.S Soccer and is designed to prepare young athletes with the necessary skills to pursue soccer opportunities such as high school, Olympic development program, college, and the professional level. Our teams strive to represent the core values of The Arizona Soccer Club with passion, respect, integrity, discipline and excellence. (P.R.I.D.E)

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Thunder's programs are designed to offer each level of player an opportunity to learn and compete while focusing on the overall development of the total player. Our goal is to develop and give each player the tools to thrive at the next level using their knowledge of systems of play, positions, and game concepts using the number system. The Thunder style of play is possession & transition and is represented at all ages throughout the club. We desire our kids to understand the attacking and defensive principles of the game while also having the technical ability to influence games individually. We will provide opportunities to promote healthy living, good sportsmanship & leadership skills.

AZSC THUNDER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The AZSC Premier Program is designed for the GRP coach who is wanting to take his or her Grassroots Recreational team to the next level.
What is the next level?

Summary Information about the AZSC Thunder Development Program
The AZSC Thunder Development program has a successful history of bridging athletes, teams and coaches who are looking for the next level by transitioning to competitive play. The goal of the program is to prepare players and Coaches for future transition into the ultra competitive AZSC Thunder Program, and is aimed at aged U11 and up.  The Thunder Development Program is volunteer coached by licensed (or in the process of being licensed) coaches who are dedicated to soccer and player development.  All Thunder Development coaches will follow the Thunder curriculum and training methodologies, as well as participate in the Thunder Coach meetings and training events.

Generally, the commitment for the program is lighter than our full competitive Thunder program as practices are generally only 2 nights a week and typically the teams will play in only 4 tournaments a year; the number of tournaments is up to the Coach.  The cost of the program will be in line with our Academy pricing at around $950, and this cost includes all AYSA league fees + 2 tournaments; uniforms are extra and are generally around $300 to $400 which includes two game jerseys, socks, shorts, a practice jersey. Winter warm-ups and backups may be purchased separately.  (Please note: uniform pricing is still in the works)

The typical annual schedule for the Thunder Development Program is similar to the following:
  • Tryout / Evaluations are held in May, with registration completing by May 31.
  • Practices Begin during the first week of August.
  • Season 1 (Fall Season) games are from mid-September through end of November
  • Season 2 (Spring Season) games are from mid-December through end of March
  • Tournaments are sprinkled throughout Season 1 and Season 2, depending on the Coach’s tournament selection
  • Breaks:  Typically the Thunder Development program takes a break in Fall (near CUSD’s and GUSD’s fall break), winter (around Christmas time) and Spring (near CUSD’s and GUSD’s spring break).  But, these breaks are up to the Coach.
