Back in August, no one was really sure what to expect from the 01 NC Fusion GUSA Gold from a soccer standpoint. Here was a great group of young ladies that had 2 players born in 2000, 2 in 2001, 9 in 2002 and 1 in 2003. Due to the older girls, this group was forced to play in 19u tournaments and the 18u state league.
The season started off well, finishing as a Finalist at the Riverside Shootout in Asheville. The team continued to grow throughout the Fall in both skill and chemistry. They finished the league season with a 3-3-2 record in the NCYSA 2nd Division. The Fall culminated with a 2-1 record, including 2 clean sheets at the Adidas Clash tournament.
This group was about so much more than their record. This was about 14 players and 1 lucky coach enjoying their teammates and the sport they all love. They taught their coach more about the love than he taught them technique and tactics. I thank you all and will always remember the lessons I learned from this amazing group of young ladies.
