CHEER INFORMATION

BBFC Cheer information

We are working hard in the off season, planning to continue the tradition of success and improvement of our Brighton cheerleaders. We are regarded as one of the best competitive cheer programs in Southeast Michigan, and our success at our competitions in recent years continue to place us among the ones to watch!! Questions you have that aren't answered here can be directed to Alisha Kelly at [email protected].

Question:

Who will coach my daughter?

Answer:

Our coaches are dedicated volunteers who are and/or will be educated in accordance with the Michigan High School Athletic Association and National Spirit Federation guidelines for cheer safety.  We work very hard to continue to educate ourselves, staying in touch with all that is going on in cheerleading. We are extremely proud of the integrity of the BBFC organization, striving to build not only the “Best of the Best” in cheerleading and Pom, but we work hard to turn out excellent young ladies who regard cheerleading and Pom not as a hobby, but a SPORT and all that it entails – the hard work, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm for their sport and teammates.

Question:

How will my daughter be placed on a team?

Answer:

BBFC has multiple teams at each age/grade level. For football, there are 4 teams at the Freshman, JV and Varsity levels.  We have cheer teams that align to all of the colors- black, white, gold, and orange.  Girls who have cheered in the past will automatically be placed on the team with which they last cheered. Those who are new to the program will be placed in a blind draft pool according to league bylaws. Requests for specific teams are not considered.

Squad sizes may be limited with available roster spots reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Siblings are placed on the same color, including those that have brothers playing football.

Question:

How much will it cost for my daughter to cheer?

Answer:

The cost per cheerleader for Freshman, JV and Varsity is $250.  Instructional (1st and 2nd grade) is $200.

Please not that your registration is not considered "completed" until full payment has been received.  Unpaid balances may result in your player forfeiting their spot on the team.

Question:

What's included in the registration fees?

Answer:

All cheerleaders who have paid the full registration fee will receive a uniform (Shell Top, Bodyliner & Skirt), warmup (Jacket & Pants) and Poms.  These items will be turned back in at the end of the season.  In addition they will receive spiritwear items which may include t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, hairbows and/or other miscellaneous items that they will get to keep!  Parents are responsible for providing cheer shoes and white no-show anklet socks. Recommendations for shoe styles and vendors will be provided as we get close to the start of our season.

Question:

How much of a time commitment is this for my daughter?

Answer:

Our season begins in August, and goes through the end of October/beginning of November. During the month of August, we practice Monday – Thursday for 3 hours each night, for a total of 12 hours each week.  The Instructional Cheerleaders practice 3 days a week for 1 ½ hours each night for a total of 4 ½ hours each week.  Once school begins, practice will be 3 nights each week for 2 hours (6 weekly hours total) for FR, JV & Varsity, and 2 nights each week for 1 ½ hours (3 hours total) for Instructional Cheerleaders.

Game schedules are set forth by the league , and will be held on Saturdays, beginning the week after Labor Day. The game schedule for the 1st ½ of the season, with times and locations, comes out at the end of August. The remaining schedule is released ½ way through the season. Practices and games are mandatory, and a signed Attendance Policy is required to participate in our program. (The Attendance Policy can be found under the “Documents” tab).

Question:

Do the Cheerleaders compete?

Answer:

Yes, we participate in our league’s end of season competition called CheerFest.  This is usually around mid-October on a Sunday, and the hosting school is on a rotation. It is mandatory for each cheerleader to compete in two rounds.  One round is a Pom Routine, and the second round is a Cheer Routine.  The Instructional team will perform a Flat Cheer for their Cheer Routine.  Freshman, JV and Varsity teams will compete in the Stunt Round.

Question:

Are there any preseason camps or clinics?

Answer:

Yes, we are extremely fortunate that our BHS Varsity Cheerleaders host a team camp for our youth organization. Watch for information to be posted on the Home page of our website. While this camp is optional, it is highly encouraged as the girls who attend learn a lot of valuable information on stunting safety and progressions as well as material that could be used during the upcoming season.  This camp will cost a fee and acts as a fundraiser for our High school program. As these High School Cheerleaders volunteer many hours to help coach our girls during the season, we are happy to encourage all of our members to attend!  Per our league bylaws, we are allowed to offer up to 20 hours of instruction in camps and/or clinics in the off season.

Question:

When do we get our equipment?

Answer:

There will be equipment hand out and sizing dates scheduled during the Summer.  At these days/times, your daughter will receive her primary uniform pieces, and will be sized for spiritwear.  You will also have the opportunity to order optional spiritwear at this time.

Once your daughter is registered, you will be added to our email distribution list to get regular updates from both the VP of Cheer and the Secretary of BBFC in regards to news and information about our program.  We are proud to be Brighton Bulldogs, and we hope you join our BBFC family!
