Brighton Bulldogs Football

BBFC provides an outstanding environment for the youth of Brighton, Michigan to experience the game of football.  Our program strives to provide exemplary coaching in the skills and techniques necessary to excel at the game, but also to ensure we are helping parents build young men of quality character.  Our program is part of the Livingston County Area Junior Football League (LCAJFL), which defines the basic rules and guidelines we operate under. Here are some of the questions we get about our program.

Question:

What team will my child play on?

Answer:

For returning veterans, all placements will be made based on what color your son played for in the previous year.  All rookies (those who've not played for the BBFC in the past) will be placed in a rookie draft pool and will be drafted into one the 3 color divisions (Black, White, Orange) by an LCAJFL representative during our rookie draft held in the spring.   Notification of team assignment will be made by the head coach of the assigned team sometime after the draft.  Once the actual draft date is known, it will be posted to the membership.

Question:

Who will coach my child?

Answer:

Our head coaches are all volunteers that have had some level of playing or coaching experience.  All of our head coaches and their assistants must complete tackle football certification through USA Football, ensuring they are all leveraging USA Football's Heads Up approach, which was designed to enable coaches to teach kids a safer approach to tackling.  All head coaches are also required to complete USA Football's age-appropriate certification, ensuring that the drills and skills that are being taught are appropriate for the age of your son, and that the skills are taught in a progressive manner as your son matures through the BBFC program.  BBFC is focused on providing your son the safest, highest quality experience coaches can deliver.  Our affiliation with USA Football provides us the resources to continually improve our coaches ability to deliver that experience.

Question:

How old does my son have to be to participate?

Answer:

LCAJFL uses a grade based system to determine what level each young man participates in, and also has weight limits at each level. There are four divisions:

  • Instructional: 1st and 2nd grade
  • Freshman: 3rd and 4th grade
  • JV: 5th and 6th grade
  • Varsity: 7th and 8th grade
  • Players must be 14 or younger by May 1 of the upcoming season to play at the varsity level.

Question:
What are the weight limits?

Answer:

  • 1st and 2nd grade:  Instructional, weight limit is 115lbs.
  • 3rd and 4th grade:  Freshman, weight limit is 130lbs.
  • 5th and 6th grade:  JV, overall weight limit is 155lbs, but you must be under 140lbs to run the ball or play off the line on defense.
  • 7th and 8th grade:  Varsity, overall weight limit is 225lbs, but  you must be under 160lbs to run the ball or play off the line on defense.

Any player that is over the Maximum Playing Weight for his division at any time during the football season will not be allowed to participate in games or any practice drills that include partial or full contact with another player in their division.  Players will be weighed once a week (either at practice or on game day).  If they are over the maximum playing weight limit at the time of weigh in, they will have to discontinue all contact drills with other players within their division for 1 full week.  They may, however, continue to participate in all other drills not involving player to player contact.

Question:

How many teams does BBFC currently have in the program?

Answer:

BBFC has 3 color divisions, each color consisting of Freshman, JV and Varsity teams.  We currently field one instructional team.

Question:

Answer:

Question:

What does it cost for my son to play football?

Answer:

For boys at the freshman, JV and Varsity levels, the cost is $300/player.  For Instructional players the fee is $185.

Your registration fees cover the cost of all equipment needed to play football except shoes, attachable mouth guard and cup.  Your son will need these (as well as t-shirts and shorts) starting the first day of practice.  BBFC purchases and maintains the best equipment we can acquire to help provide the safest environment possible for playing the game of football.

Please not that your registration is not considered "completed" until full payment has been received.  Unpaid balances may result in your player forfeiting their spot on their respective team.

Question:

What is the BBFC Refund Policy?

Answer:

Participants (Football and Cheer) who choose to leave the program and ask for a refund between the time of registration and the end of the first week of practice will be refunded the entire registration less 25%.  Refunds requested between the second week of practice until the first game of the season will be refunded the registration fee less 50%. After the first game, there is no refund available.  Season ending injury situations may be dealt with as an exception to this policy and on an individual basis if they should occur.  Should a participant decide to drop from the program, simply email us at [email protected] and your request will be processed according to our Refund Policy.
